During a nearly 20-minute speech filled with misinformation about transgender people and a fear-mongering call to bring back mental institutions as “a normal part of our society,” Tuberville claimed that furries “[tout] the fact that… many airline pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers are part of the furry community.” He did not provide any evidence as to where this information came from.

Then the came for the Furries?

Furries are so much worse than $6.50/gal diesel. Glad he's on top of this.

i'd rather have a furry in the cockpit than a republicant in public office.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

What if it's a Republican furry in office?

[-] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago

There already is. Why do you think Tommy is so vocal about it? Every accusation...

[-] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The fact these morons give any "brainpower" to thinking about furries is hilarious to me. I was probably in college when I first hear about furries, the extent of that thought was, "huh, what the fuck, oh well" because it ain't my bag baby. Not worth ever thinking about again.

Let's not address the actual issues with ATC funding, but go after a (probably) very small demographic that has nothing to do with the problems at hand. Dude went down a furry rabbit hole one night, got scared because he was excited, and invented something to convince himself he's not interested.

[-] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

Dude went down a furry rabbit hole one night,

Lana, are we still doing phrasing?

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 11 points 1 week ago

That rabbit hole's name is Judy Hopps.

Tommy boy in precisely two days time: Why are all these credit cards in my name and my own home internet is shut off? Woah, I dont even know what AWS is what's this bill?

[-] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 20 points 1 week ago

Welp... He threw down the gauntlet, furries - I think y'all should put him to the test. Show up at his next TV appearance in full garb, and see just how terrified he gets.

[-] SPRUNTnsfw@fedinsfw.app 18 points 1 week ago

You can all-but-guarantee his browsing history is full of furry porn.

It's weird to have something in common with a Republican Senator.

I don't know about airline pilots, but they definitely have a significant presence in software development and network engineering. It's probably unwise to provoke them on a public platform.

[-] myyass@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Meanwhile, the FBI:

If a pilot has the confidence to wear a fur suit in the cockpit, I'll feel safer than ever.

Damn, you guys just can't let people be, can you..?

So much for "liberty".

Furries are literally just living their life. They aren't hurting anyone just by existing, so why on Earth would anyone care?

I would hang out with a plane full of furries over a plane full of Republicans any day.

[-] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

Republicans are definitely planning to pivot to furries if transpeople ever become accepted by the mainstream.

'Meow, meow': Pilots scolded after animal noises heard on air traffic control frequency April 15, 2026

The FAA said "non-essential conversations" are prohibited below 10,000 feet.

You can bark into the microphone at 10,000 feet. Good to know!

Pilots have been meowing and making annoying broadcasts for decades. Just to say that the chances it's a part of furry culture are very slim. Truckers will also be annoying on the radio. It's a matter of the call of the void and someone thinking they're funny and thinking it doesn't cause any real harm (and it largely doesn't, but you never know who will turn the radio off or need to broadcast an emergency and can't).

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I got a raptor check one time and someone else replied with a very convincing dinosaur noise.

That or there really was a Velociraptor on the other end of the line.

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Probably a Utahraptor in disguise.

"You shouldn’t care about money stealing pedophile incompetent republicans and the masked US-Gestapo, called ICE, kidnapping, raping and killing you poor people, be afraid about Furries and hate them for enjoying life."

Always the same shit, just different scapegoats.

He's running for governor of alabama and needed something to get his name in the news so there'd be something to spin. He's running against one of the prosecutors of the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing, and that sound bite is what his media team thought would be sufficient for the people of alabama.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Been flying for over 30 years. This “furry” thing…isn’t a thing in flying. And even if it’s a thing in people’s off time, nobody is talking about it.

And who gives a damn what people do in their off time as long as they do their job right.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

What even the fuck?

Are we gonna talk about all the bullshit the crazies were going on about when it came to "litter boxes in schools"?

These guys are just playing the hits now....the Sharia stuff, the red-baiting stuff, the transphobia, the furry stuff?

[-] JTskulk@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I'd much rather have a furry pilot rather than a republican pilot. You know the moment that plane has a problem he's jumping out with a parachute he brought only for himself.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I wonder what those politicians smoke before they do those speeches, and if that stuff is even legal.

You're a fucking idiot if you don't think a guy who likes being a bird is a good pilot. Birds know how to fly.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Does he think people that like to dress up as stuffed animals and fuck other stuffed animals aren't able to fly planes?

He doesn't, I bet this bitch is into some weird shit himself.
