EVF with bifocals (lemmy.today)

I just got new glasses, after an appointment featuring my optometrist telling me "I warned you you were getting older." The bifocal script isn't strong, but it's there!

And now I can't figure out how to use my viewfinder. I can use the screen, but I preferred (or at least did!) to use the EVF. Right now, I can't even get it clear enough to adjust the diopter. I have to imagine there's someone else here with bifocals who has figured out what works for them -- advice, tips, tricks, ways to reverse my degrading eyesight, I'll take anything.

Thanks!

You probably also got "Always wear them" advice, and depending on your subjects and issues with your eye, it might be wildly impractical, but you might want to explore taking off your glasses to use the EVF, and correct your focus with the diopter. In particular, I'd guess the EVF is designed to have the eyeball at a specific distance and centred (why else have that rubber surround), and glasses will mess up that distancing, possibly putting it outside the range the diopter can correct.

Ideally, raise the issue with your optometrist, my suggestion is only based on observation, not a sound knowledge of optics and eyes!

That's an interesting idea; I'll try without glasses when I get home tonight. Thanks! The optometrist will have to wait, but previously I definitely was looking through my glasses through the eyepiece... But maybe my eyes really have just gotten older.

Odd I have bifocal lenses as well and have no issue with the EVF in my Nikon, or with the optical viewfinder in my DSLRs (also Nikon).

Are you sure it's not a problem with the camera? Get someone else to try it?

My kid has had no problems, but they might be too inexperienced to notice. That's a good thing to check, thanks!

What camera are you using?

I wear my glasses with my camera but I have to take them off while using binoculars.

You can try either way.

You can also try using a hood loupe
