I highly recommend Naomi Klein's book The Shock Doctrine. Milton Friedman trained these motherfuckers to pitch deregulation and privatization as the solution to economic issues. Without exception it accelerates inflation and poverty, and lets the government sell the country for parts. Chile, Argentina (again), Iraq, Russia. The US has gotten the shock treatment like 6 different times this millennium.
It still baffles me that some of these "world leaders" blindly follow a social science they clearly do not understand, while at the same time undermining HARD SCIENCE

That's true, but in many cases these leaders bypass any democratic process, and instead use executive orders and military coups to force policy changes.
