I just don’t know what the FIFA Peace Prize means these days.

[-] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 2 weeks ago

it means shakira will sing a song for you

[-] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

It's the prize you get for ensuring the FIFA leadership peace of mind from pesky corruption investigations.

The real story here isn’t asshat Trump. It’s that the US can’t keep its hands to itself, and it’s been that way for decades. Trump is just the new boss. The next one will also attack various countries.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

The US has always been ruled by corporate interests. Presidents come and go, but money and the love of it will always remain.

Probably gonna need to be updated soon.

[-] FaceDeer@fedia.io 28 points 2 weeks ago

America itself will soon be on the list.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago

Soon? The American people are under attack. Their constitution is under attack.

[-] FaceDeer@fedia.io 8 points 2 weeks ago

But they're not being literally bombed by their military. That's the "soon" part.

If only. The rest of us out here in the outside world would have much preferred America to start the punching with its own face. I guess they kind of did, but it's getting everywhere now.

Looks like Cuba is next.

[-] banazir@lemmy.ml 42 points 2 weeks ago

One of them is a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 46 points 2 weeks ago

One is a FIFA Peace Prize Winner

[-] banazir@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago

One of the highest distinctions one can achieve in the seediest underbellies of the world, I'm told.

[-] joecitizen@piefed.ca 37 points 2 weeks ago

The Yanks have always been war mongering pieces of shit.

[-] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

And apart from the revolutionary war never had troops invaded them, so the general public has no idea what a war is actually like

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 weeks ago

You're thinking of the War of 1812, but otherwise, yeah. There have been Wars on US soil since then, but no foreign invasions.

Even counting civil conflicts, The Mine Wars were an entire gun shooting, bomb dropping, war in West Virginia, and even that was 100 years ago, in the 1920s.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 37 points 2 weeks ago

That's just the ones directly. That's none attacked by ~~paid proxy~~ terrorist forces.

[-] Hamartia@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Or coerced/bullied/threatened into obedience.

[-] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago

Probably gonna add Canada, Mexico and Cuba to that list here soon. The old codger is getting desperate.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Well Mexico should already be on there. And arguably Cuba. I would say a blockade is an attack.

[-] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 weeks ago

There's a Joe in the George column

[-] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

The placement is by order, not position. However, I think position would be better.

Why is America not on this list? ICE are terrorists hell-bent on destroying America in trump’s name.

It’s kinda surreal that of this chart, every country that Trump and W bombed, Obama did too

[-] codydodd@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 weeks ago

Obama appointed bush's minister of war and economy before inauguration. He was a wolf in sheep's clothes.

[-] woop_woop@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago

This would be cooler if it had sources

[-] ooli3@sopuli.xyz 25 points 2 weeks ago
[-] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 8 points 2 weeks ago

Before anyone says "B-But wikipedia is no source!!" That's true but wikipedia has sources itself which you may check and verify

Really puts the Yemen situation into high relief. We've been at war with them for over 20 years, but we keep pretending they attacked us out of the blue a few years ago.

The most peaceful president everyone

[-] ThirdConsul@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I, for one, want to thank our glorious USA overlords, for not nuking any new countries this decade. And for not (again) financing terrorist in my country this decade (well, at least nothing got reported); nor black sites (this decade), and only manipulating our elections and financing far right parties. And making sure the "tech" giants keep exploiting us.

I am so lucky. /s

Fake news. The fifa peace prize award winner would never do anything like this.

No need for nuance
