I've never even used Facebook and I'm in my mid 40s.
Doesn't hinder Meta to match the data they acquire to the dormant account. They have an account for everyone - if you actually created one is not important.
Good for them.
There are adults that never used the accounts they set up themselves as kids to play Farmville with a friend.
I don't use my primary for anything but messenger, for a few contacts.
I have an alt I gamed with back in 2010ish, and I use that for anything at all that I actually do on FB... Like share info and resources, and show support on DeFlock groups. It has literally no connection to me, I connect wholly via VPN and an alt FB app.
My dad created an account for me for basically everything on the Conglomonet, Facebook, Microsoft (And Outlook for my Email), Apple, Google, etc.
Never used any of them.
The smart ones
In the early heyday of FB I set up accounts for my elderly parents thinking it would make it easy for them to see pics & clips of their grandkids and such.
Thank goodness they never used them.
Are there some who have?
There are so many influencers who got their start in pampers.

It's been 20 years since Facebook became popular, and 25 years since vlogging became a thing. I dunno what to tell you

Boring answer but besides a few quixotic individuals who reserve high value digital real estate for loved ones JIC, most online accounts created on behalf of those with little agency (babies, pets, etc) were created exclusively to funnel more attention to the attention-addicted creator, whether via cute photos or puppetry.
But these accounts are abandoned once the attention well dries up. The account credentials are soon forgotten and within a few years the accounts are garbage collected by inactivity pruning algorithms, or hacked and disabled. In any case, they’re long gone by the time the kid comes of age.
E: So basically zero. These pampers influencers simply created a new account.
…what? Parents created accounts for their children to grow into and eventually take over? Are they squatting and just keeping them reserved or posting as “hi I’m turning 1 - I love this smash cake!” - is this a real thing?
My sister had a baby young while in college. Her and the father split up not long after. The father's new girlfriend made an account for their baby. It was wierd. So wierd, and pissed my sister off to no end.
Yes, the girlfriend would post like she was the baby. It was, the wierdest shit.
It would be cool to be able see all your childhood pics and stuff if it didn't come with all the dystopian bullshit
I had an acquittance who made a profile for her son while she was pregnant, profile picture was an ecography and she would sometimes post roleplaying as the baby. I'm glad we're not in touch anymore.
I started college when Facebook launched. Yes, this is a thing that happened. There was a legal case where a girl sued her parents for making a Facebook profile in her name when she was a baby and posting photos without her permission.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
