No there will be always free tier of LLM's. For data collection, advertising, improving model output etc. Maybe they will reduce the free quata but i don't think they completly remove it. Ohh sorry you are talking about search engine's LLM results. Okey they may go.

You can also change your settings to remove ai and it should remember them for the device.

Why are you using any AI for search results? Just turn it off and use DDG as a normal search engine. Problem solved.

Well, in my experience, at least is still better than Gemini.

Both.
The reason why Google's search quality has gone downhill so quickly it's because, rather than your search query being put though it's search engine, it's being put through Gemini to make their AI numbers look better to investors.
All of this is made worse by the fact that Gemini, itself, isn't very good as chat bots go, at least compared to it's competitors.

DDG isn't GOOD, but it's almost always good enough to eventually find what I need. Unlike Google, which is just ads and other useless results now.
Mmm I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree. Google's results are still better than ddg, which sources them from bing. In my experience, it is even more susceptible to SEO spam than google, even though both are pretty bad.
To me, search engines with interesting results are more stuff like marginalia and mojeek, but those are niche and not really for most people. They also have a tendency to give results that have nothing to do with the query, which is sad :(

I just disabled the AI on DDG and use it as a search engine. I don’t trust any AI to give me an accurate response.
I never liked it, and google tricks have been broken for a while. My browser came with startpage by default, seems alright for now. Thankfully I don't need a search engine that often
