Because most Lemmy communities are ghost towns.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 11 hours ago

Is this the Palestine Isreal discussion?

[-] gandalf_der_13te@feddit.org 3 points 14 hours ago

shitposts are the lube that makes things flow~

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago

In an absurd world we act absurdly.

[-] Geodes_n_Gems@lemmy.ml 3 points 20 hours ago

been a long long time since I've seen this template, noice.

What the uncultured calls shitposting, I call philosophy.

How do you see that stat? And what are the numbers specifically?

[-] idunnololz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

The number is the number of posts viewed that belonged to that community. A view is defined as either opening the image or tapping on the post.

[-] blanketswithsmallpox@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

You're telling me we can be tracked... online?!

Shit shit shit shit.

[-] idunnololz@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Actually the app tracks all of this locally and never sends the data anywhere. So, yea you can definitely be tracked but it won't be due to Summit.

[-] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Ah makes sense, thanks. How can you view that stat? I’m curious what mine are.

[-] idunnololz@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

This is a feature in Summit (a Lemmy/PieFed app). If you are using Summit you can view these stats in You > Local account stats.

Disclosure: I am the developer of Summit.

[-] Buage_@piefed.social 2 points 19 hours ago

Just downloaded Summit !

[-] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 hours ago

Oh neat. Thanks!

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

How do I see this on my side?

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

Not sure which client you're using but on Summit click on "You" in the bottom right, then scroll down to "Local account stats" and it should be in there

[-] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

To be noted: it works only if you use only summit to use lemmy, otherwise it's kinda useless as that feature only works locally on summit

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Oh, I see. Didn't know that. Do other clients have a similar feature?

[-] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 23 hours ago

I use Thunder and it doesn't

[-] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

I like a bit of levity, especially when much of the political news sounds like a shitpost. At least here one can recommend punching Nazis and saying kids should be allowed to physically defend themselves while being titillated by soapy tiddies and letting the bean team bake.

The internet is one giant shitpost. It's a shit microcosm of shit Randy. Just shit muffins all the way down.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Not another night of the shitternet, please?

Wait, it's all shitposts?

Always has been

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 20 points 1 day ago

Shitpost is a catchall community. You can post just about anything here. There's a lot of discussion that goes on in some posts, and other posts that are simply 'heh bewbs' level content.

I love the randomness of it because it jives with the way my brain works. I flit about like a methed up hummingbird, and so does this community.

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 day ago

I feel like Lemmy/Piefed made a big mistake if you compare it to the early days of Reddit. Peoplee here always try to put everything into neat little categories called communities, but most of them are dead or only have a single person posting stuff with zero comments. In the early days of Reddit there were no subreddits, you can still see how that looks on Hacker News for example. Lemmy should've started like that and introduce communties much later, as a consequence !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world has become the catch all community all this should've started with.

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

That's true.

I have three pretty much dead communities I made which seemed like good ideas at the time but are just way too niche and I have way too little time to promote them. I'm subscribed to a pile of communities that are dead as well

[-] Piege@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Guilty as charged

[-] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

Lemmyshitpost isn't one of the top ten communities on Lemmy for no reason

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 day ago
[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

I liked that community a lot, until the admin banned me for being ableist. I legitimately don't know what I did to piss them off, other than the reason the left in the mod log (calling me an ableist shitbag).

I feel like I'm pretty chill, and usually cautious, but I guess they didn't see it that way.

[-] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Still get comments removed by mods

[-] neuracnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The stick enthusiasts community will be avenged for this ghastly slight.

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Well aside from the ones with cute anime girls...

[-] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

that’s actually a flaw not a feature, shitposting is the lowest effort posting in any community and a lot of subs on reddit ban shitposting from their subs because it drowns out all the other content and community

that is to say the most popular comm in this place takes the least effort

which makes lemmy less of a reddit alternative and more a 9gag alternative

[-] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Honestly, 9gag alternative is kind of what I want, and what I used reddit as, too. I left 9gag ages ago, when it turned too sexist-racist-homophobic-transphobic etc., and I left reddit, for the same reason. I hope I do not have to leave here for it too, it seems to spread slowly like some sort of disease in meme communities. Shitposting is great fun, shitposting by hateful bigots, is not fun at all.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

The ultra-political still lurk around there so it works out well. One minute you're sharing your appreciation for a picture of a tin of beans getting rode down a hill of corn or something, and before you know it you're defending totalitarian authoritan views you didnt even know you had and getting lectured about the evils of western pigdog capitalist global expansion and why you personally need to take up arms and attack your local government office right now or youre a traitor to humanity, comrade.

I feel its still serving its purpose.

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Or it's genius because anyone who has some shit to post in a real community either decides it's better for here, where it can be enjoyed and it doesn't drown out the real content, or they try it there, the mod stops them, and instead of getting all butthurt about it they can bring it here where it gets seen by more people anyway and still the real community stays pure.
