I wonder how much CO2 they emmit and money they waste flying these around the world all year
We're talking about car racing here. I feel like CO2 is not their biggest concern.

What do they use to generate the electricity?
Ethanol coming from poop
Not their biggest concern but they have targeted to become Net Zero by 2030
They targeted peak bullshit by 2030. You can't fly thousands of tonnes and hundreds of people between despotic countries and ever be net zero.
Greenwashing is becoming more and more illegal all over the world, it will for sure be by 2030. It has so many issues and has turned out to be just total bullshit in 99.999% of the time.
And even the few times where actual CO2 was captured, it was exchanging long cycle CO2 (from fossil fuels) for CO2 in the short cycle (trees and such). So in terms of CO2 it might be neutral, but that's still very damaging to the environment as that CO2 is going to be released in decades where previously it was stored for millions of years.
It didn’t sound like they were wondering about car racing biggest concern tho.
But F1 has hybrid engines!

A lot, but a lot of the advancements in things like engine and aerodynamic efficiency come from racing.
They need to have efficient designs so they don't have to stop in the pit for fuel, tires, etc. as often because every second matters in a race. That translates to efficiency gains across engine design in general. Whether that is more efficiency in getting power out of the fuel, getting the power to the wheels, making the engine itself lighter without losing structural integrity, etc. All of that makes its way back to both commercial and consumer designs.
The pinnacle of engineering moving upwards also pulls the average up along with it.
Even if we add it all up though, peak professional racing like this produces a tiny fraction of the CO2 released everyday by international marine shipping. Hell, burning bunker fuel in international waters where there are virtually no environmental protection requirements probably produces more CO2 in a month than all of international racing in a year.
These companies spend a lot of money on advertising, propaganda outlets, astro turfing online, etc. and want us to think about stuff like this instead of the things that actually cause the most issues by volume. Just like States like California talking about people saving water due to drought, instead of having farms reduce planting insanely inefficient crops like almonds that need 8 gallons of water per nut to grow. Or allowing Saudi firms to grow alfalfa, one of the most water intensive crops, in Arizona.
All true, but the wet tires literally never get used. So they aren't adding to anything
Probably why all modern cars look like f1 cars then
I really hope you're being facetious and you don't actually think that to learn how various changes and concepts manifest in the real world, things need to be exactly the same.
Of course I am. That's how progress works
Unfortunately nowadays, that's not so obvious online anymore. There are people that think like that and will fight in the comments over it.
If I drove the tire truck, on days when it's 110% impossible that a set could be used, I'd rather leave them in the truck and bring them to the track than breaking my back putting them in a sack and hauling them back. Fuck.

Are we checking? This is a place to take a p*ss out of motorsports.
F1 is not the only motorsport in the world, so go ahead and post your shitposts about WEC or MotoGP or IndyCar or ralley or Polish Speedway or whatever. Even Formula E, I guess. It needs some love, too.
By the way, F2 > F1.
Rules? What rules? Stop inventing. Just don't be a douche. Lemmy.world's sporting conduct applies.
