What a surprise that there is one outside the US consulate in Toronto.

I am really, really not wanting to live on this planet anymore...

Flock cameras are not the only problem, ring doorbell cameras and their similar products are also collecting our data and used to train a.I. and watch us and the thing is it is easy to have an off line/local motion detection camera for safety.

[-] AGM@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 day ago

Flock should be banned from Canada. Like ffs can't we even build our own dystopian security state apparatus? Shameful.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

Carney liberals will refuse to ban them.

[-] dom@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

The only government who would is the ndp and we won't have them in any time soon.

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 48 points 2 days ago

The notice here on the site reads Flock Cameras have not yet officially been confirmed to be in Canada yet.

Apparently Home Depot in Toronto has plans for them to be installed, to help with their theft issues. The same theft issues the cops already do sweet fuck all about. But apparently having AI hallucinations telling the cops that XYZ did the crime is somehow going to help them.

Man duck home depot. I try to buy from Rona when I can since trump anyways.

[-] potter2010@lemmy.ca 32 points 2 days ago

While Rona is a "Canadian" company, it is owned by Sycamore Partners since 2023. An American private equity firm based in New York.

I'm not sure what's left nationally beyond Home Hardware and Canadian Tire. Regionally and locally there may be some additional options.

Windsor Plywood has quite a few franchises.

Home Hardware stores are not just Canadian, they are locally owned and operated*. You can often literally walk over and ask the owner a question.

  • I hate that I cant use that phrase without sounding like a clanker now.
[-] dudesss@piefed.ca 14 points 2 days ago

Princess Auto is Canadian, but more for vehicles.

And then some of your independent hardware stores like Preston in Ottawa.

There is also online Canadian stores instead.

[-] Blisterexe@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Thankfully the rona near me is a fully independent location that only shares the name, it might not be the only one so it may be worth checking.

Man duck home depot

let me guess, you're standing in front of a home depot and are calling out things you see?

What the fork is up with this shirt?

[-] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

This is the Bad Place!

[-] MeowWeHaveAProblem@toast.ooo 6 points 2 days ago

I think Rona is American owned now.

i forgot home depot even in the states, was a premiere target for shoplifting expensive home improvement equipment, and selling it.(remember the shoplifitng sub, before it was shutdown in the 1st term). it was shoplifters primary target, followed by lowes. they often use the garden section to throw lifted material over the fence.

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

I really wish someone would call out Carney on this shit in a very public forum.

But no, instead he is gonna get praise for a standard neoliberal stuff.

[-] ArmchairAce1944@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

He doesn't care. He is the most conservative PM we got in decades. He is fully about dropping all pretense of human rights and civil rights and democracy. He does not give one fucking iota about Canadian sovereignty more than he has to. I am confident the moment trump is dead he will immediately want to normalize all relations with the US and do his best to act like it never happened.

Every time Lewis tries the msm bury the story under of layers of misdirections or outright try to get him murdered.

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 days ago

Why the fuck does Home Depot have these?

[-] BurgerBaron@quokk.au 11 points 1 day ago

MAGA ownership. Shop at Home Hardware instead.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

they were one of the quickest to accommodate ICE, so now if you want to hire a day laborer you go to any other hardware store. still got the same owners

[-] mHtt@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

UBC, city of Brampton and Highway 407 seem to be the hotspots.

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Highway 407 is an odd inclusion because... Yeah? Of course it has license plate readers, it's a toll road. That's how they charge the toll.

Otherwise, yeah, Brampton seems to be the big one. Patrick Brown working for his corporate masters again.

[-] mHtt@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

It's internationally owned? My guess

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

At least the ones that have been mapped so far.

If you (anyone) spots one, do everyone else a favour and add it to the map.
