But seriously, floss your teeth.

I have a permanent retainer so it's a hard requirement for me, but my hygenist makes the remark at every appointment that my teeth and gums are so much healthier than when I started seeing her a decade ago.

The only time I've bled at the dentist in the last 8 or so years was because they were inflamed around one of my molars because a piece of tortilla chip got shoved under them.

Also, gum grafting isn't a fun thing to get done, even if they use the matrix material instead of taking skin from the roof of your mouth (the recession happened before I started taking care of my teeth)

Anakin, tooth decay is evil!

From my point of view the toothbrush is evil.

Well then you are flossed!

Idk where this post came from, American dentist don't seem to have sink next to the bed. I thought it was just one place, but it keeps happening.

next to the bed

Whaaat sort of dentists are you visiting?

Whatever the thing you lay down on is called lol

[-] thenextguy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Typically it is called a chair.

Also, my dentist just uses suction, I never have to spit anywhere. There's a sink nearby and sometimes thy give me some mouthwash or something and I can spit in there. Ive never felt the need to spit anywhere while I'm in the chair.

I understand it works for people, that's why they don't do it. But me for example have a gag reflex where either I need to control the suction tube, or I need to spit. Before moving to US, I've always seen dentist chair with a little sink next to it, so I think it is a good convenience.

Maybe consider it like slopes on the sidewalk, or the tactile pavements. You don't need it, but it's there for people who need it, and is kind of an standard now.

I’m with ya. Them suctioning most of it isn’t good enough cause once something triggers my reflex I just need to spit or the feeling doesn’t go away. I wish there was a mini sink next to the chair to quickly spit so that I can feel like I can breathe

Why are you laying down at the dentist office? Usually you sit. Are you sure you're going to a licensed facility? If the dentist has to put you under anesthesia for every procedure, that's a major red flag.

Huh? Dentist chairs recline into a lying position. What kind of dentists are you seeing?

My mind read the patient's line in Zenos's voice

A test of your reflexes!

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
