My parents in their 30s This would make a lovely second home for our family to winter in. Hopefully the garage can fit both our cars, snowmobile and ski equipment.

Me in my 30s I'll never financially recover from this purchase.

Gentle reminder finish that carton of milk to not lose your investment

Gotta exercise the option and take those profits before expiry!

There are several reasons why I don't talk to my parents. But one of them is that they refuse to understand our situation right now. I make twice the money my parents made at my age, yet I am unable to buy a house while them, at my age had already finished paying for a custom built house.

They paid 60k € for that house. Today, you won't buy it with 500k.

Keep in mind, this is not the fault of the parents' generation. It's the fault of the rich who take more and more profit out of the working people.

It's the fault of the parents' generation for electing Reagan and letting them do it.

If you went back before 2016 when politics were less culty and asked boomer what they thought about Preidents. They all would have said Reagan was the best. He is Neo-Lib Jesus, bringing the teachings of trickle down economics to the world. They had decades to move away from Neo-Liberalism.

My FIL was a life long republican (he was a standard conservative engineer type), his wife a democrat social worker, but the post 9/11 Iraq invasion flipped him to democrat and he’s stayed that was even now in his 80s.

My dad was a pretty liberal guy, got tear gassed protesting Vietnam. Taught us to distrust the police and most other authority. My mom was the democrat too but less extreme and ran school boards against republicans who wanted to defund everything.

All four voted for Reagan at least once.

Just throwing it out there that only a tiny fraction of GenXers were old enough vote in the 1980 or even the 1984 elections. I am in my 30s and only one of my parents was old enough (and definitely did not vote for Reagan, I have seen their Mondale button), the other first voted for President in 1988.

I'm a Millennial, but my parents are Boomers. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago

GenXers in their 30's were not buying secondary ski houses, we were getting buttfucked by recession

Also remember that only a tiny fraction of humanity lives in the USA

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

We are talking about U.S. President Ronald Reagan, so that hardly seems relevant.

[-] wieson@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

I'm just expanding on your point in replying to @grue

It's the fault of the parents' generation for electing Reagan and letting them do it.

You limit the culpability of the "parents' generation" in electing Reagan, I limit it further. The "parents' generation" is bigger than one jurisdiction.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Generations are limited to countries or handfuls of countries. Cohorts are created by shared experiences and those experiences are rarely global. For instance in Russia the Gen X equivalent is called “the last Soviet children” and as you can imagine their experiences aren’t exactly the same as those who make up Gen X.

Electing... meh. But not killing and eating him and his friends when he showed his true face? I'll never forget!

[-] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

So it's your fault for Trump?

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It sure is also their fault. They have a house, they want the price to go up. There is no incentive for them to want more houses built. So they do not get built. So there are too few. Very simple and a big part of the problem. But sure let's just blame rich people, as if that would solve every issue.

[-] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

this is the reason. but it makes ordinary people look greedy and awful... and we can't accept that.

despite all evidence to the contrary. half my my socialist friends who bought homes are now 100% NIMBY, because they want the value of their house to go up, and that 'value' trumps their socialist ones by a large margin.

because everyone should have housing, but not in their neighborhood! but no, it's not THEIR fault housing prices keep going up, aferall they 'made an investment' and it's not their fault that other folks aren't as 'wise' as they are...

95% of the peopel here screaming about housing prices not being fair, would 100% support no more development the second they owned a home, because now they are on the flip side of the equation, and everyone pursues their won self interest above all else. the 'rationale' will just go from 'housing is a right' to 'preserve the neighborhood character'.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Not sure about the exact % but most people, for sure. Imagine paying 500k and then a ton of new houses get built and now it's worth only 300k and you literally pay for years just those 200k of nothingnes...

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 days ago

Holy shit, this guy can afford dairy?

[-] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

2 items?

I shop exclusively in the 1 item or less lane.

[-] Asetru@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

or less

It's always nice to just go out to see the happiness of people buying their grocery item of the week. It's so kind of them to just let others watch them for some vicarious bread.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

If you aren't taking advantage of the free samples you're missing out, bud.

[-] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Some restaurants are pretty generous too:

This morning I went to the grocery store and only bought two items: milk and bread!

I've been unemployed for a year as of today.

Created by bots, posted by bots and reposted by bots.

It’s bots all the way down here.

I'd argue there is a case for reddit repost/recomment/bridge bots that are properly tagged, credited, can be filtered out by users (I think that's an option on PieFed, not sure tho), preferably managed by instance/community admins, and perhaps a few other measures just to be sure.

Sadly, none of this seems to be the case here.

Don't blame older people, blame capitalism. Americans have voted increasingly rightward, and are more supportive of enriching the billionaires in the mistaken belief that they'll create jobs and pay us more.

[-] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

So blame older people after all?🤔

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

Spoiled people nowadays demanding to eat food.
