America isn't like this because Trump is president

Trump is president because America is like this

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 48 points 3 days ago

America is most certainly NOT an ally of Russia. Only that traitorous coward and his administration is.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 49 points 3 days ago

That traitorous coward is the leader of America. So yes, it is.

That is a meaningless distinction.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Not to those of us that want nothing to do with fascists and dictators.

The majority of conservatives now support Russia. There are still some conservatives that haven't gotten on board yet, but they will fall in line as they are not known for splitting the party.

https://www.npr.org/2024/02/13/1231221273/the-republican-party-has-grown-much-more-supportive-of-russia-in-recent-years

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 4 points 3 days ago

And America isn’t entirely made up of republicans.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

I, unfortunately, live in a red state. I am surrounded by conservatives. I grew up in the Seattle area so I know you are correct, but it doesn't feel that way where I live.

[-] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Well, facts would say otherwise.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 3 days ago

I didn’t vote for, nor do I support trump. Therefore. Your “facts” are already wrong as ALL of America is only represented by the entirely of it. And while I live here, I am represented.

And in the event that my omission alone is not enough of an example for you to understand that some ≠ all, by my math, roughly 272,358,341 people of the 349,660,921 citizens in this county didn’t vote for him either.

So maybe you should start the process of changing your “facts” to fit reality.

That's because orange donny wants to be emperor of the western hemisphere while pootin wants to be emperor of the eastern hemisphere.

Did anyone think donny and pootin were no longer friends? After pootin put donny in the white house twice and is working on his third term now?

Seriously?

[-] Radical_Socialist_t00t@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

Meh, the best pootin could accomplish is emperor of the center. Eastern is and always was China's

Republicans have been favoring Russia for well over a decade and more like 15 years at this point. That's another line Democrats really haven't crossed.

It's not an American thing, it's a Republican thing, and Republicans are not America, although they represent around half.

That said, Russia is fighting Cold War II and we're not even aware, so they are wildly winning. Much moreso than in Ukraine, an actual "hot" war.

[-] Carmakazi@piefed.social 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Conservatives see the current liberal democratic world order and think it's a degenerate failure of civilization. Many reasons for this but it can be summed up as "racism and culture war bullshit."

They will literally side with Russia to destroy it if they are given an opportunity.

Edit: It is my uneducated prediction that we will provide to Russia: military intelligence within the next few months, raw materials and/or dual-use tech in Q1-Q2 2027, and major weapons systems by the end of 2027.

Did you forget when they all had Ukraine signs and stickers? Right up until he said one good thing about Putin then bam supporting Ukraine is woke.

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

Are people surprised? Steele wasn't lying.

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago

Now? He's made it clear where he was heading since last year.

[-] MunkyNutts@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Publicly on display since 2018, can't forget Trump siding with Putin over his own intelligence service...just shameful.

[-] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

we have apparently forgotten many, many things

[-] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Seriously I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. We’ve all known without a doubt and completely public that he’s a Putin asset. We’ve known since at least 2015.

The so called American experiment is over. The result proved to be no different. The nature of humanity is perpetually fighting for freedoms.

Their superpower was not their military or their economy. It was the mythology that they were exceptional people and the modern exemplar of democracy. For a while much of the world was to believing too.

Canada's PM Carney said it well. The world put up with them out of convenience.

The Americans took that tolerance as a compliment on their brash attitude. They couldn't adapt when reality diverged from the mythology. Half of them are coping by following the traitor into oblivion. Half of them are insistent reality will return to their mythological storyline.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

It was over when it started. The founding fucks idea of liberty was simply those with the money make the rules and don't have to follow them. The so called American experiment has been a great success for the wealthy. You are just confused by propaganda that it was ever about anything else.

The real news is the rot that exists in the US exists in every country. You can point, cry, rage, etc all you want about the US but it is coming to your country unless you have policies in place to reverse the wealth gap.

[-] blastosist@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

I had the unfortunate experience of knowing a sociopath, and he exhibited the same characteristic. 99% of humans only value was what they could do for him and those who had power over him he fawned over in an embarrassing un self awareness.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Traitor Trump doesn't speak for the American people anymore than Putin the Poisoner speaks for the Russians. Put them both in a room and let everyone they have wronged have a go at them for all I care. They are just puppets for the wealthy.

People voted for this person to become President of the United States.

Analysis: For Trump, results have often revealed the art of no deal https://apnews.com/article/trump-deals-negotiating-style-russia-iran-apprentice-6776621902cf44c1cec9a13fc6a8cd78

[-] wpb@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

"Western order" to me means Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, East Timor, Iraq, Afghanistan, colonialism, the silent holocaust (the one in guatemala), Guantanamo bay, Pinochet, the genocide in Palestine, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Iran, etc. The author mentions "western order" as though it's a good thing. It's not. Not saying we should all ally with Putin, but I really don't consider what we, the west, have done to the world a good thing.

[-] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That's what bothers me about people calling him a 'traitor'. A traitor to what? Global US imperialism? Massacres of school children, bombing weddings, hospitals? Long before Trump the US has been a murderous racist thug stalking the earth like a demon.

[-] wpb@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Not a lot of people learn that kind of history. I'm meeting gen z kids who barely know Iraq even happened. One million dead, based on a lie, and it takes one generation to completely forget it.
