Jon Stewart will remain at the helm of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” through December 2028, extending his once-a-week hosting role through the next presidential election.

Skydance announced the two-year extension on Monday, resolving uncertainty about Stewart’s contract, which was due to expire in December.

The new deal means one of television’s most prominent critics of Donald Trump is staying in place for the rest of Trump’s term.

Thank goodness. I hated it when he left the first time.

The people after him, before he came back, were....okay, but just not enough of an edge, overall. Sure there might have been a bit more "representation", but it seemed to be more bothsiderist than not in the outlook. That might be because Trevor just seems to be a really nice guy and more of an outsider on American politics. When they had guests hosts after Trevor and before Jon came back, the quality varied a lot.

I kept seeing a push around that time to try to get Leslie Jones into what seemed like everything, and, wow, I just don't like that style at all. Around that era, I was really worried they'd give the show to her. I was hoping that someone like Sarah Silverman might helm it. But really happy that Jon decided to come back even if only one day a week.

I'm glad to see Josh Johnson in the hosting rotation lately. For those who don't know, he also releases a live, fresh, topical stand-up routine every Tuesday night on his YouTube channel. Idk how he can churn that out while traveling in between appearances on TDS. He must just love doing it.

Oh, my gosh, some of the lines when he delivers them have me just about crying I'm laughing so hard. I cannot remember the specific example, I think it was one of the correspondent ones vs. when he was the host. But yeah, that guy is a real talent.

I've watched some of his YT content, too.

Been watching off and on for years. Stewart definitely has the hardest hitting lines, but Klepper and Chieng have grown on me. I’ve seen a few clips of Cheing outside the Show, I think the writers could unleash him a little and he’d do better.

Oh yes. Even in the years w/o Jon, there has been a lot of talent that rotated in and out of there.

I think those two started during the Trevor years? Not sure. Klepper had his own short-lived show where he played an Alex Jones type of character and that was great. His on-the-street interviews are to die for.

And Chieng is hilarious. Some of his interviews (where he's interviewing someone he knows, I think) have been real stand-outs. I like Desi Lydic and Michael Kosta too.

I think it would have made a difference if he had been hosting in 2016. At the very least we’d get some of his best shows ever, Bush years all over again

At this point let him run while still doing the show

It'd be less conflict of interest and way more entertaining/productive than what we have now

Came here to say he should run LOL

Mondays only.

Also, I highly recommend checking out his podcast The Weekly Show.

I like Jon Stewart. I even went to a show of his. I followed him from 2000 to circa 2015. He’s been on point for all that time plus his vociferous advocacy of the 9/11 responders health fund.

I like Jon Stewart now. However. A lot of schtick.

Honestly surprising. I guess David Ellison figured Trump doesn't watch cable anyway since he never seems to meltdown at Stewart's shows, and with polls like they are, maybe he's keeping his "just kidding left, I was on your side all along" options open in case the GOP won't actually be able to fulfill their promise of a permanent corrupt oligarchy that the Ellisons have been betting on till now.
