For Kelsey Gellner, a Seattle-based pediatric nurse, a statewide proposal to bar trans girls from sports participation feels like a violation of her duty as a medical professional. The ballot initiative includes a requirement she calls “invasive and extreme”: all students who wish to compete on girls’ teams would have to undergo genital exams.

“I tell my kids and patients that my No 1 job is to keep them safe,” said Gellner, who is also a board member of the Washington State Nurses Association. “I can say with confidence that girls do not want to have an unnecessary exam that creates an unsafe barrier.”

Pedophiles gonna pedophile. Create rules "to protect women and girls" whilst endangering women and girls.

[-] bigbangdangler@reddthat.com 6 points 2 days ago

Isn't it interesting that the party supporting sweeping Epstein and other pedo crimes under the rug is also the party that wants laws which look at childrens' genitals?

[-] caboose2006@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

So you're going to create a bunch of discomfort and probably trauma for tens of thousands of girls to bully 3 kids you don't like? Oh yeah, these anti trans fuckheads have the moral high ground.

This has always been the inevitable outcome of going down this path. I hate to say it but these reactionaries won’t understand until it’s their own children being forced to choose between playing sports or not getting assaulted by school sports officials who want to “check their genitals”.

[-] Stormy@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago

They don't want girls doing sports. Or anything besides playing with dolls to prepare for when they get baby trapped by a chud around 16-24.

As late as 16? Doubt.

Idk there’s a large contingent of conservative sports dads and moms who just don’t want to pay taxes

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Christ, conservatives are really weird people.

[-] nanometer1625@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago

I'm Washington? There's no way that's gonna pass.

[-] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

There's a lot of money behind these legislative pushes.

It's really disgusting to see so many people on here excusing this vile invasion of girls' privacy. These genital exams have absolutely nothing to do with health; they are only to confirm the sex of the child. They are transphobic, creepy, and discriminatory. Boys will not be subjected to the same type of genital exam.

[-] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Are we in the same thread? Who is excusing this here?

[-] WatermelonPaloma@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

There are people here comparing this to a physical examinations and tailor fittings, saying there's really no difference.

Pretty sure that is a joke from an old Friends episode.

Fair enough, I didn't realize the inseam comment and the original one comparing these proposed genital exams to a hernia check were from a Friends episode. For a minute it seemed like people were equating physical health checks for sports to these genital exams.

Yeah, so…

Read this shit and then remember that there are people here that won’t vote, and recommend that you don’t either. Then remember that they’re here to try and guarantee a MAGA victory.

Then vote your fucking ass off.

[-] Radical_Socialist_t00t@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Sure vote, but also by a gun and be ready to use it when they announce republicans are staying in office or that votes are really just a suggestion and the results were rigged anyway.

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I remember when the DNC argued in court, and won, that primary votes were just a suggestion. I wouldn't be surprised if the magats tried that with the votes this November.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Yep. I’m counting on this to happen.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

It was weird to do it for pee wee football as a young boy too...

A hernia check was part of the physical, and that included a doctor holding your balls and having you cough.

We could just have universal healthcare though, and normal annual exams should be a thing regardless of athletic participation.

The only reason any sports physical is ever needed, is a shit ton of kids don't normally see a doctor. Give them all access to medical care, and every kid would already be getting an annual exam, and there's be no need for any child to get one just for sports.

Just a form from a doctor saying "____ is medically able to play ____ at _____" that you get whenever your annual is, good for a year.

Covers every base.

[-] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social -5 points 3 days ago

That's, uh, not standard my guy.

Now, state to state is bound to be some variation so definitely not saying you're lying if you never got checked...

But did you personally ever do a sports physical for football?

It wasn't a secret, we all talked about how fucking weird it was. Definitely a normal part of the exam. The entire team pretry much all went at the same time to the same clinic every year the day the forms were passed out.

[-] karashta@sopuli.xyz 5 points 3 days ago

Can confirm. Always hated this for pop warner football as a kid in the 90s.

"Turn your head and cough."

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

There's a bunch of people on here that never have any idea what they're talking about, but constantly want to tell everyone what their uninformed opinion is.

It's really fucking weird, and almost always comes from the fringe instances.
