Europeans: this is not normal, this is not fair. Let's protest for our rights. Americans: this is fine...

[-] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 3 days ago

Media in US is run by trump's friends and unfortunately foreign news is relying on them to report.

March's NoKings was the biggest protest in US history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_protests_and_demonstrations_in_the_United_States_by_size#List

And it had almost no coverage internally or in foreign media.

The thing about America is, for every person who cares, there are 3 idiots with guns who would love to be the next Kyle Rittenhouse. They aren't even all republikkkans. Just boot lickers with a murder fantasy

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

Americans are the biggest bunch of fucking cowards.

I mean sure, ignore the protests from earlier this year where millions turned out across the nation, but sure..

[-] Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online 60 points 5 days ago

And did what? They didn't disrupt anything. Parades on weekends are good for raising awareness, I'm not going to say they are useless. But they are fundamentally different from the other examples given.

[-] kahjtheundedicated@lemmy.world 90 points 5 days ago

Gotten shot and killed by lowest-bidder wannabe cops, who faced zero consequences. And our wannabe dictator said there would be no consequences for killing protesters. The reality is living conditions aren’t bad enough yet for most people to be willing to risk that.

So as it turns out, violence and fear tactics do work…

[-] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world 52 points 5 days ago

I’ve often been surprised at how living in America is perceived by the world. I’ve met a lot of people from all over the world, and while some have actually spent enough time here to understand the good and the bad. The rest who have not seem to believe in the shiny veneer that we export in our movies and television.

We are absolute wage slaves here. We are one missed paycheck from homelessness. But sure, blame the slaves for not overthrowing their owners.

These threads are full of useful idiots and propagandists shitting on Americans.

I'm so bored by this nonsense. At least get more clever if you're going to try to divide all of us.

The way I see it, we're all in this together. Even the Russian people are my ally if they oppose fascism and corruption. These are my people... All people who want a better world.

But sure, enjoy your indulgences if this thread is your thing. May your lives be as short as Trump's should be.

[-] UnequalExchange@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

....ook....and now what are you americans doing for your allies? ...

and on a side note I find it odd that the Russians havent rebelled violently against Poo-tin. Its Loooong overdue. Dude's a nearly useless goof.

It’s not like ice was literally killing protesters execution style in Minneapolis or anything. This post is dumb

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 13 points 3 days ago

Oh, look what you've done. You've created a political morality in which the government's entitlement to your obedience increases in direct proportion to how willing it is to fucking kill you.

There's no country where people should be fighting back harder than the one where the government is most willing to murder them for daring to resist its authority. You're part of the problem.

[-] traxex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

Ah the classic “go die in the streets because I totally would” response.

Well we had No Kings protests. Police have shot and killed our citizens in the process of that. In my area, during a protest, police grabbed, dragged, and shot a protestor point blank in the eye with a less than lethal gun (he's blind now)

[-] Napster153@lemmy.world 24 points 4 days ago

Yeah, and the freedom people who once frothed at the mouth about wanting to fight tyrants are now probably the ones shooting protestors happily now.

All for the tribe.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago

We had a similar per capita rate of participation in No Kings as France has had in its recent demonstrations. But the US has a much lower population density over a much larger land area, so the protests appeared smaller despite having millions more people in the streets.

The joke/stereotype answer is that: Americans don't have time for that, they need to hustle else they get fired from their fourth job.

I think one part of why the general strike has been postponed is that USA is more like 50 different countries. And that even if it's bad now, and getting worse by the day, the pain threshold is still not being reached for enough people.

And I am sure there's much better answers than mine.

[-] jontree255@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago

The pain threshold is not definitely not high enough to get the average American to risk everything.

I also think most people are waiting for the election to solve problems. Which is stupid, I know, but like I said in my post having a bunch of people breaking into stores and destroying property right now will just boost Trump. Right now he’s fucking floundering and extremely unpopular.

If we’re gonna have mass protests it needs to be after the election when he tries to deny results.

When are these images taken? Currently the White House and National Mall look like a trailer park aftter a tornado rampaged through it.

[-] foggianism@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

The White House doesn't look like that anymore. It is a construction site. That's what you get when you elect a real estate manager twice.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

A real estate manager who literally isn't smart enough to learn how to wipe his own ass.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

BS Americans were getting shot execution style protesting ice. Do we need more protest and civil disobedience? YES but this is garbage

At least one of those shots is behind a permanent spiked perimeter fence that you get arrested or shot for crossing. Also Trump keeps moving the White House temporary perimeter fence back further from the White House. I need to check if the Capitol Building is currently fenced off

[-] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 45 points 4 days ago

It's also not a current picture since you know, a 3rd of the white house isn't rubble

[-] Atropos@lemmy.world 26 points 4 days ago

Please show this meme to the people of Minnesota, Rene Goode’s family, Alex Pretti’s family, that kid who lost his eye, and the people who are following ICE around daily to prevent them from kidnapping people.

Doing a protest like the ones in France right now, two weeks before our midterms, would be very stupid and probably boost Trump and the GOP.

Now, when they try to steal the election and nothing gets done you can complain, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

This criticism would hit so much harder if, say, the people of France would do something about the hard right, but, oh look, Marine Le Pen can run for president again? Sounds familiar.
