Good, but still way to close for comfort for a whackjob who wants to spinoff Toronto Water so it can later be privatized. Like the UK hasn't been clear enough on what a disaster that policy was.

At least he's not Rob Robford.

[-] viJilance@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Doug Dougford

Not sure what happened but the preliminary results show a 13pt difference between Chow and Bradford, which is a clear win when polls were suggesting a neck-and-neck race.

Polls are just a manipulation tactic anyway. They exist to stop a % from voting because they think it'll go "their way".

Correct, that's the math I did?

Thank God, idk anything about bradbradford but his name screams 'products of sibilings'

It's very refreshing to hear the two political rivals respecting each other.

Toronto has a tradition of this. Rob Ford respected. Layton famously on council. Chow and now Doug Ford do get along quite well (Ford didnt carry much water for Brad bradford which was handy). The only real bad blood was Ford and Tory iirc.

what? Are you smoking DECO crack?

July 9, 2014 (Toronto City Council): As a Toronto city councillor, Doug Ford launched a heated, shouting rant at a council meeting targeting Integrity Commissioner Janet Leiper, Councillor Paul Ainslie, and Speaker Frances Nunziata. He accused the council of hypocrisy and political motivation over recommendations regarding his brother, then-Mayor Rob Ford.

November 30, 2012 (Toronto City Council): Doug Ford engaged in angry shouting matches and verbal clashes with fellow council members (such as Councillor Adam Vaughan) during a tense and chaotic council session.

Why do you think he's meddling in City of Toronto politics?

Good points I didnt recall these as I was out of the city in these years. Sorry.

We won't even mention Doug Ford calling a Star Reporter a bitch or Rob Ford's comments to Olivia Gondek. This family turned city hall into a trailer park.

When she was elected in 2023, Chow became the first racialized person to serve as mayor

Does racialized just mean non-white?

[-] jade52@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

Jesus fucking Christ I did not know that's what radicalized meant

[-] g8phcon2@k.fe.derate.me 2 points 4 days ago

@jade52@lemmy.ca racialized not ~~radicalized~~

[-] jade52@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Wow I'm an idiot

[-] potatomuncher@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

Yeah. It's white speak for "those coloured folks" when they want to sound sophisticated and not-racist...

Another one they use is "people of colour". But never refer to their own as "people without colour".

[-] g8phcon2@k.fe.derate.me 1 points 5 days ago

Or in this case whites are those without race?

[-] potatomuncher@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

Yea, pretty much.

"We are the default human beings and those over there are 'racialized' others".

It's basically veiled, polite, left-wing white supremacy in the anglosphere. But without the slurs and outward hostility.
