I still used to frequent it all the way up to last month, for some interesting discussions. But now... it's really become AI-pro^[Yes, I know it's been that way for a while, but either I'm feeling it more or the bots have gamed the website to the point that all you see are announces from big tech companies or people going on about their AI solutions] and any post that even hints about AI existentialism gets immediately cut down.

I find it hard to browse the site anymore, and lament the loss of expert tech discussion in my weekly routine.

I mean HN has been a dumpsterfire for at least 5 years, with 90% trash and 10% useful content. But I agree, there are now lots of AI proponents (who are all apparently building a killer app that will launch "soon" to make them millions; but they can't go into detail because the idea is genius. Don't worry, it won't be possible to copy the app via AI when it launches, because they spent 50k$ in tokens on it).

Before AI broke the brain of everyone at HN I used to find the culty techbro culture hilarious to read the comments of for how out of touch they were, but with AI now the thinking of that kind of person has degraded so much further it isn't as fun anymore because there isn't even anything interesting to grasp onto.

It feels like browsing a bigfoot sightings forum where a belief in bigfoot somehow leads to everyone thinking humans are worthless but yet bigfoot clearly does not really exist or at least nobody has any proof of it. Where is the fun in that? It is just sad.

HN is "professional" 4Chan. If you ever spent any time on both sites it's obvious that there's a ton of overlap in the userbase. The only difference is moderation.

So going there for anything but focused technology discussions is a bad time. Now that that era is dead, there's no reason to visit unless you want a safe space where you can be a discrete racist/bigot and/or a flamboyant billionaire bootlicker.

I wish I could see it as just sad. Instead, it's like somebody is constantly trying to murder me slowly, and the fact that they haven't actually managed it yet doesn't make the experience any less terrifying.

Well then join my workshop where I show you how to be sad AND terrified simultaneously while using AI to augment your limited human emotional capability.

The workshop is free because your personal data is the product!

Wait why are you crying now? This is good news!!

Long time ago. I think I presented an MVP there for technical feedback and none of the feedback was technical. All the feedback was "this useless, no one will ever buy it". Getting bought was never the goal, but that didn't bother them.

And after lurking, it just felt like a community of knowitalls who wanted to shit on anything that didn't fit the bubble. I just changed he password to some random crap and deleted my password from the password manager. Haven't used it since. Never felt the urge.

I'm thankful to HN because I got my last job because of it, but most of the discussions and comments there seem to be from bots or two-legged duning-kruger effects so hoping to have a sane discussion with actual smart people is kinda rare unless you find to manage a topic that is not about ai stuff, politics or CS.

You can find there all the cringe stuff from ai proselitism ("thanks ai because I can do my website for free in no time without having to pay thousands to a web designer or developer!") all the way up to antivaccines weirdos ("lockdowns were a joke and the vaccines were proven to not work") and even xenophobia and chauvinism ("go back to your weak country"). Yes, all of this quoted sentences are from the top of my head from HN from the last few weeks.

I found a good write up about the AI bubble that's still relevant today. Beyond that yeah it's not great
