I know someone who worked for a major POS provider and they usually ship the terminals with tipping on by default. It's up to the retailers to charge that once they receive the units.

[-] tempest@lemmy.ca 4 points 19 minutes ago

I'm sure they are falling over backwards to do it.

I've accidently cancelled transactions trying to zero tip at take out pizza places and the like.

Ha! I always suspected this. Putting the onus on the consumer to tip. Such bullshit straight from the top. Tipping culture is so bad.

Then you get the places that aren't McDonalds and you have to walk up to order and get your food and ask for a tip. I don't tip there either.

Outrageous! You already gotta tip your TSA agent after they grope you at the checkpoint... what's next?

[-] y0kai@anarchist.nexus 21 points 2 hours ago

I'm so tired of giving them all of my money they honestly don't even grope that well so I only tip like 5%

Depends on how well they can dirty talk, but they’re not getting more than 15%.

The worse is H@m or Ikea asking to give money for charity (then use those amounts to ask government tax cuts).

This myth will not die...

A company that collects your donations cannot claim those donations as tax deductible. They are your donations; you can claim them on your taxes.

Even if the company could claim them, it would be income that they would then offset, resulting in a net of zero. There would be no benefit to this.

Companies cannot and do not claim your donations to receive tax benefits. Companies do a lot of shitty things, but soliciting pocket change en masse for charities is actually one of the few good things they do.

It’s a common misconception but it is in fact illegal to claim other’s donations as donations by the corporation, and it’s not too likely that very large organisations would do that. Of course, it’s possible they’re breaking the law. It is also irritating. Why doesn’t the multibillion company just make the donation instead of harassing me.

The store serves only as a collection agent for your gift. Assuming the business is following the law, it will not include your donation as part of its business receipts, or income, nor will it claim the charitable gift as an expense.  In other words, your gift has zero impact on the store’s income taxes.

[-] PotatoLibre@feddit.it 2 points 9 minutes ago

Wait.

My donation it's not an income, it's just a donation. So it has its own "reference".

When the company will declare how much donation has done in the year my money will be added to that count there. In Sweden gov gives a tax break of about 30% of the donation's total amount and I guess my money will be counted there.

I don't see any other reasonable reason to mob your own customer at any purchase.

Almost Every major retailer in the US does this.

Nope, I would just not buy a God damn thing out of pure spite after I saw that: Hit cancel, leave the bottle on the counter, and just leave.

Then again, I just carry a filtered bottle with me when I am forced to deal with airports just so I don't get ripped off by these fucking scumbags and their $7 water bottles.

As soon as I cross the checkpoint I just fill it up at the nearest sink or fountain and it tastes great! I recommend Sawyer ceramic filters if anyone else is interested, you can usually fit them into water bottle straws but they also sell bottles. They're rated to filter a million gallons too, so pretty good bang for your buck.

[-] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 5 points 1 hour ago

I don’t bother filtering my water, because most of the places I travel have clean water available. Instead, I bring my insulated water bottle full of ice cubes through TSA.

Interestingly they don’t care about frozen water, just liquid water.

As soon as I’m through the line I go to a water fountain and fill it and now I have ice cold water.

[-] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago

You could look into a purifier, but that's a lot of extra bulk. I did not know they didn't care about ice though, sounds like freezing water bottles before you go might be a decent solution as long as you can keep them frozen for long enough.
