That cheese looks suspiciously like cheddar though 🤨

You caught me.

I couldn’t find proper american cheese slices and kraft singles weren’t going to cut it.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 18 points 4 days ago

What? Kraft singles are the proper American cheese.

[-] makyo@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

It’s a crap cheese but it’s the perfect burger cheese

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 4 days ago

For real. I love me some actual cheddar; but fresh not melted. When it melts, it takes on a slightly more bitter taste. That doesn't happen with singles.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

Kraft makes and invented American cheese slices but they look like this:

If you look closely you will note that singles say “cheese product” where this says “American cheese” in the fine print.

No they’re not.

They’re great for a grilled cheese but they have the wrong texture for proper American cheese.

We're not talking about good, we're talking American.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

I approve of your choice.

I reject Kraft singles as good American cheese just as much as I reject the notion of American cheese being "fake" or "plastic" by default.

Melt your cheese slices either way

Use the aggressively melting cheeseproduct. Let the heresy flow through you.

Too much cheese. Too much meat. Too good to be imitation McD's. Glory to you and your failure.

McDonald’s is ten patties to a pound and these are eight so it’s an extra 2/5 of an ounce in each.

Good eye.

[-] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Agreed. Each burger patty should be 1/10th of a pound, although the condiment placement is on par.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I was taken back by the sparse condiments but I knew in my heart that it was the right amount.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Maybe he's going to spit in it at the end. Secret sauce.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Nah. Regs (cheeseburgers) get one slice. Quarters get two -- fanned placement, please. Cheese volume looked fine.

[-] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

But the slices at about 40% too large

[-] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 15 points 4 days ago

Task failed, sorry. These look way too good for maccas

[-] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Looks delish. Hope it was great!

My only suggestion is to maybe steam the cheese so it melts around the patty. I only learned this technique recently and love the results.

[-] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 10 points 4 days ago

Unless you got some boujee mcd's nearby, that's way too much cheese to be an imitation.

[-] dudeface@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

These look far better than what McDonald’s sells

[-] micgerne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

these look far too good to be from maccas

[-] Ninja876@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

The real quest is... Whats in those two jars in the background?

[-] slothrop@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

Imma guess they're satansmaggotycumfarts.....

[-] Ninja876@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

aka a future post! YEAH!

[-] redlemace@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I Gotta say ..... you insult your own burgers. A mac should not even be allowed within a mile of those you are making there. Cast-Iron is the way. Only a charcoal grill smoking heavily from the fat dripping from the burger on the hot coals could be an improvement of what you are doing there.

Cast iron is the only way to get a nice thin seared patty like I was looking for.

Those look like breakfast McMuffins at first glance, and I now I want some. Thanks.
