It’s too bad they could financially absorb whatever the maximum damages they should be fined. I’d love to see this company destroyed and forgotten.

What did they think google was going to do with the land lmao

The issue isn't so much that the datacenter and forest changes were completely unexpected.

It's more that Google didn't even bother to submit for the required permits, almost surely because they didn't want to do the environmental studies they require that would limit their build plans.

But Google told us they only wanted an open space preserve for hiking enthusiasts!

Whatever the outcome of this, it'll make no difference to Google.

They speeded up the process by ignoring any Laws that they otherwise would have had to wait for to permit the land clearance, and probably pay off the correct people to justify why it was a necessary decision. This way, they pay whatever fine Finland gives them, and they still build their massive data centre which will generate trillions for them harvesting.

Finnish authorities are considering applications for a total of 145 new datacentres at various stages of planning, including a €13bn (£11bn) artificial intelligence infrastructure project by Google that the US company has called its largest ‌investment in Europe.

Finland fucked.

Finland is extremely protective of their forests. This is basically the one thing they could do to anger the country enough to prevent their ability to built the datacenter at all, anywhere in the country.

Then it should be an open target 🤷🏻

They could always use more practice for a potential Russian invasion. Can never be too prepared.
