Grandmas are so dang powerful
I first heard a version of this quote as a U.S. Marine Corps quote.
I wonder if its origins are different than that.
I did a quick search and it seemed to still point to a military origin.
I found an old zippo lighter in an antique shop in Hue, Vietnam that had a version of this quote engraved on it
This quote is attributed to many different people, I read it was Edward R Murrows, or Mother Teresa, or Slick Rick or some Chech philosopher. It’s crazy how it has been relevant for so long.
Dang! That's from 1985. That's true even today! Maybe all generations feel that way? And we just rediscover it in our own way?
Funny how people can recognize a problem and still not solve it 40 years later. I mean funny as in sad.
Your grandma looks like she's seen some shit.
Huh, TIL I can still read cursive
Buddy of mine got this for me on a magnet as a birthday gift over 20 years ago from a Spencer's Gifts. I still have the magnet (would post a pic but currently traveling) and the words have been etched into my brain. I even had it as my Skype for Business status at one point.
Vintage 1980 or earlier - multiple people had signs like this by their desks at my first job.
brain autocorrected the title to "mowing the lawn at grandma's", and it almost still made sense.
Work Reform
A place to discuss positive changes that can make work more equitable, and to vent about current practices. We are NOT against work; we just want the fruits of our labor to be recognized better.
Our Philosophies:
- All workers must be paid a living wage for their labor.
- Income inequality is the main cause of lower living standards.
- Workers must join together and fight back for what is rightfully theirs.
- We must not be divided and conquered. Workers gain the most when they focus on unifying issues.
Our Goals
- Higher wages for underpaid workers.
- Better worker representation, including but not limited to unions.
- Better and fewer working hours.
- Stimulating a massive wave of worker organizing in the United States and beyond.
- Organizing and supporting political causes and campaigns that put workers first.
