I once wrote 4GB file in 2 seconds that way. This was on a uni computer almost 20 years ago, so 4GB was half my workspace.
I did something similar in one of my CS algorithm classes in college.
A Cray super computer only had 303MB of Disk and 8.39MB of RAM.
