Collins complained that “everybody ignores” her vote to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial.

“What bigger break could there be?” she asked. “It is never enough.”

While Collins touted her breaks with Trump, she was also a pivotal vote for key parts of his agenda. She provided a decisive vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018, despite sexual assault allegations that he denied. And though she voted against Trump’s Medicaid-cutting “Big Beautiful Bill” on final passage, she was a key vote to advance debate on it.

Now Stephen King can finally move back home. /s

She voted to acquit Trump during his first impeachment. She was the final deciding vote. Fuck you, cunt.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

She absolutely was not the deciding vote. That would have meant 66 other senators voted to remove him from office. The final votes on the 2 counts were 48 and 47 (with Romney voting in favor of removal from office of the abuse of power charge but not the obstruction of Congress charge).

Changing the outcome would have required 20 total Republicans to flip. Collins changing her vote would still have left them 18 votes shy.

He learned his lesson though.

It was the sternly-worded letters and emoji tweets that finally re-educated him

[-] seagull@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

None of Trump's impeachments came close because conviction requires 67 votes in the Senate. His first impeachment only had 1 R vote to convict (Romney) - the total was 48, so they needed 19 more Republicans.

You're probably thinking of Collins being the deciding Yes vote for Brett Kavanaugh, which she was. Despite claiming that she didn't want to see Roe v. Wade overturned.

[-] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Just write someone a strongly worded letter and furrow your brow. That's worked for every other scenario for you, right, Suze?

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Thanks for voting to put a rapist on the Supreme Court to take away women’s reproductive rights. Bye Felicia

I’ve saved this on for many years

[-] khepri@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

She could never decide if her job was to lick federal boots or to represent the interests of her voters. As a GOP rep, we have plenty of examples that you can get away with doing either just fine, but not with constantly flopping between the two.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 1 day ago

Oh, bullshit. Every time she went against Trump it was managed opposition. She only did it when MAGA knew they already had enough votes, and could let her preserve her "independent" image, and keep getting elected. It's extremely common in any vote, for both sides.

So spare me the whining about your sacrifice. It was all manipulation, and we all know it.

[-] nastronot@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago

she believed he viewed Roe as "settled law" and "settled as a precedent of the court"

You got used and still pushed his policy.

You’re done.

[-] MJKee9@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

She didn't get used. They always made sure there were plenty of yes votes to push through the Trump agenda whenever she said no. She never said no when her vote actually mattered. She was playing her constituents as fools.

[-] nastronot@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

You’re right. The people always get played.

[-] Kurtismayfield@lemmy.zip 42 points 1 day ago

She had zero problems giving Trump 93% of her voting support after voting to impeachment? Tell me that you voted just for appearances, without telling me you voted for just appearances.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Susan Collins, one of the token senators who was allowed to vote the other way when it almost always made no overall impact.

Get fucked.

[-] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 257 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Despite her whines, the reality is Collins only broke with Republicans when she was sure it would make no difference to the vote outcome. She made damn sure to toe the party line the rest of the time.

And she's wrong, sometimes it is enough: Voters have had enough of Susan Collins.

[-] CoconutLove@lemmy.today 31 points 1 day ago

Exactly, if she could’ve gotten away without voting for Kavanaugh or the Big Beautiful Bill, she would’ve, but the Republicans and Trump needed her vote then, so she gave it to them. A Democrat wouldn’t have gone along with that shit. That’s why she got voted out.

She thought she had an eternal grift and was gonna ride that out til she died in office. I love this for her.

[-] Furbag@pawb.social 8 points 1 day ago

Expecting praise for doing the bare minimum - impeaching, convicting and removing from office a seditionist and a traitor to the country who was caught red handed committing election fraud, is frankly laughable.

You're not a child, Susan Collins. You don't get a gold star just for participating.

[-] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

“I threw a glass of water into the raging forest fire I help ignite! Why won’t you acknowledge that?”

She didn't even do that she voted to throw a glass of water in an arranged brokered sham vote lol

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

Random breaks here and there don't count. You need to be consistent. You also don't get points for voting a certain way when:

a) It would have passed anyway without your vote

b) It never had a chance of passing even if you voted for it

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Career politician grouchy she’s not untouchable.

Nothing to see here. Shes done.

[-] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 55 points 1 day ago

I wish her the absolute worst. I hope she gets the elder care she voted for.

[-] Suoibud@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

I doubt she will but that’s a beautiful sentiment

[-] TacoSocks@infosec.pub 1 points 15 hours ago

Honestly, her elder care has improved by no longer being a Senator. She could've gotten the Mitch treatment.

[-] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 12 points 1 day ago

Oh boo hoo hoo Susie now GTFO!

[-] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 142 points 2 days ago

Thanks for overturning rowe you old fart. Now scurry off back to your cave and die knowing history will remember you as the fucking moron who helped advance an agenda that set women's rights back decades.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 1 day ago

Bitch, we know you only voted to convict because your party knew exactly what the vote would be and how many Senators they could have strategically vote for it without actually changing the outcome.

[-] joecitizen@piefed.ca 14 points 1 day ago
[-] santa@sh.itjust.works 65 points 2 days ago

"It is never enough."

Correct, you betrayed the people to such a degree that it cannot be forgotten or made up for by any means. Kindly fuck off and wither in obscurity.

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 day ago

What a goddham ghoul she is.

[-] historicaldocuments@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago

“What bigger break could there be?” she asked.

What are we looking at here?

[-] TheOctonaut@piefed.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

John McCain voting for healthcare IIRC?
