A bipartisan group of 45 attorneys general from 42 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, and the US Virgin Islands have asked Congress to pass the Senate’s Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) censorship law, and make sure the bill’s duty of care provision is included.

I think we would be fine without any attorney generals

I can't help but feel loss is inevitable. All people care about is gas prices and this and that and they just keep coming back with this and the tech companies are fine with it now because of AI.

There were several propositions to ban trans-girls from girls sports that passed but not a single proposition to ban state officials from advocating for, suing for, etc to push these kinds of privacy violations. Not a single state proposition enshrining privacy rights that would defend against this passed and I'm not sure any were even on the ballot.

That will be the end of lemmy and all the small web. Only the giants will be able to afford and care to use the zionist entity and Thiel backed identification and doxxing "verification" systems.

Surely there has to be a breaking point right? I wonder if there could be some kind of workaround through Tor, maybe we'll have to make a new internet with black jack and hookers, or maybe the populace will get complacent and we'll be forced back into shopping malls to get our social interactions.

The only problem with a work around through Tor is going to be if the infrastructure in place can handle it. Think about how many people upload photos and videos to lemmy or mastodon, and how many concurrent connections there are. It's doable but without more involvement in hosting Tor relays it would be slow.

If Tor became an even semi-popular way to maintain connection to ungated websites, I guarantee the relay count explodes.

the epstein oligarchy wants it, so it's only a matter of tiime

once it's here: i'tll be a requirement to use a phone (unless you're using graphene, lineage, or a linux phone) as well as a requirement to use a computer (unless you're using linux that doesn't use systemd nor a mainline kernel).

you can still buy the hardware that will let you have these options for now.

Unrelated to this travesty, but the Hawaii AG on that letter was fired the next day (well, notified she wouldn't remain in the job in the upcoming term).
