In some ways, being charged in Georgia is worse than federal charges for both Giuliani and Trump. A president can pardon you of federal charges. They can't pardon state charges. You need a governor to do that. Brian Kemp doesn't sound like he would play ball.

It's a good thing they are all pro states rights

Damn governors can pardon criminals. Just when I thought us presidents being able to do that was bad enough.

Kemp isn't exactly a good guy. You don't think he'd do it to appease his base?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 3 years ago

There is no love lost between Kemp and Trump.

Also as someone who lived in Georgia the first 35 years of my life, those good old boys that run things in Ga don’t like being challenged or their grift exposed. Trump tried to fuck that up and undermine it, if Kemp gets the chance to fuck Trump he will, I fucking hate Kemp and voted against him twice but I do know my racist Georgia politicians

This fucker is 79 and is terrified of spending his last remaining years in prison. I just don’t understand why he got so embroiled in this effort to overturn the election? At that age, and after I think what many consider to be a prominent career in politics, why the fuck do you put it all on the line so some shitbag can be president again? I don’t understand how personally invested people have gotten with Trump despite such perilous consequences.

My pet theory is that his addled brain has a problem really understanding what's going on. He just knows trump has power and he wants to be close to it.
