I'm really going to miss his videos, but I'm glad he's ending it on a happy note rather than dragging things on when he doesn't want to. Godspeed, Tom.

Good for him. Too many people in his position keep pushing more, and they either burn out, quality drops, or both. Going out on a high note takes some mental fortitude.

Tom seems like one of the most genuine people on the internet, he fact checks the crap out of everything (going out of his way to issue corrections when he is wrong - which just never happens) and produced exceptionally high quality and interesting content every damn week.

I’m slightly sad he’s giving up now only because I only discovered his channel a year or so ago and I’m not going to have new things to show my kids as they grow into an age of watching more educational content.

I can only wish him the best of luck with whatever comes next.

(Also, he deserves an MBE or something…)

I love his channel - great, informative, no-bullshit, and a fellow British YouTuber doing short-form content that can be watched over a lunch break or while hungover or whenever.

What really got me interested were his appearances on Computerphile - there's a playlist and I'm sure someone will post a better link - but he takes the raw science of it and explains it really well.

Good luck to the dude. Sales in red shirts and grey hoodies will fall through the floor.

One of the best. I'm glad he's taking a break to care for himself, he definitely deserves it

FINALLY, I can start binge watching

Every influencer/whatever should strive to be like Tom, his series is the greatest on youtube of the last decade and I'm sad to see it end.

At the same time I'm looking forward to whatever he may try out and hopefully he'll remain somewhat relevant even though we don't deserve him at all.

I've been watching Tom for years and now that this video is here it gives me a very bittersweet feeling, it'll be odd not having a new video from him on Mondays. But good on Tom for realizing what's important to him and putting it first, although I do hope that some day he is able to return to YouTube or media. And you never know, depending on how much time he takes off, maybe the next series will be "Tom Scott goes to space"!

I am in denial.

Got out before any scandals, good job Tom.

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

I really can't imagine Tom being involved in any kind of scandal. I'd be flabbergasted

Amazing human from the perspective of a viewer. What a career, and what a good way to... Not ultimately fuck it up.

The end of an era.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

Wow. And what an epic and funnily silly ending. Amazing guy.

[–] FrankTheHealer@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.

Tom chose the former and I respect it. Well done sir. Thank you for all the great content.

Godspeed you magnificent beast, you'll be missed but I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. I'll see you when you upload ocasional videos.

[–] Chozo@kbin.social 2 points 11 months ago

Sad to see him go, but I'm glad that he's doing it on his own terms and not because he feels forced to. Gonna miss seeing new videos from him. Tom is legitimately one of the best creators YouTube has ever had on their platform.

What a way to go out lol. Also, watching the clips made me realise just how much of his stuff I haven't actually seen.
