So that's how girls transfer knowledge? Its not how guys do it, Google docking for more info

[–] Lemongrab@lemmy.one 25 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Docker? I barely know her!

[–] SidewaysHighways@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Docker is hard :( why can't I know everything.

Also yes the doing it thing

[–] gornius@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Docker is 80% Linux, 10% Networking, 5% Virtualization and remaining 5% is actual Docker-specific things.

If you learn Linux, networking and virtualization, Docker is just a cherry on top.

[–] SidewaysHighways@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Yeah I figured out that trying to learn docker (which I failed and resorted to installing a desktop environment to be able to copy paste, which still wasn't enough so I added portainer) while trying to learn how to run a Linux server, while trying to learn how to best use proxmox all at the same time may not have been the wisest decision.

But I grabbed an nvme laying around to throw on the laptop and trying to learn Linux and docker/portainer on a local machine.

Less steps at a time at least lol

Thank you so much, it’s always nice to meet another person of culture

Anyone need help with, uh, computers?

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How can I help?

A common problem I see is plugging the exhaust and running super hot because of it. But it appears to be on purpose in many cases, and the result is rather interesting to observe, I've found.

The buttons on the front panel may also need some fiddling every now and then to keep them functioning firmly.

Some issues need me to go a bit deeper inside though, to solve them to satisfaction.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You know, there are a lot of problems with it, you seem like you know what you're doing so how about you fiddle with the buttons first and see ~~what happens~~ what else needs to be fixed?

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 10 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I always start with the buttons up top, this is how you turn on the computer, after all.

But you know, it wouldn't matter if nothing needs fixing, I always like to play around, just working my way through everything there is to do, really getting down to it.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That sounds good to me, are there any buttons I can push? I feel bad leaving you to do all the work, if I can get down to it with you I think that would be more pleasant for both of us

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I always make sure to turn it into a job for two people. Makes it easier to reach all the important spots when you have a helping hand.

However, make sure to follow my lead, your hands need to go exactly where I tell you to put them.

(Jokes aside for a second, never reach into an open power supply unless you know what you're doing. In fact, best to not open it in the first place.)

So, now that everything is turned on, let's go over how to mount a drive

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's really comforting to be in the hands of such an expert, I feel like you could teach me a lot. Everything is certainly turned on now, so tell me more about mounting

(Oh yeah, I'm not fucking with electricity at all, no worries there)

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Actually, mounting should happen automatically when you insert a drive into the back port. And then you can load your files to the internal drive

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

So if I'm understanding correctly - remember, I'm still learning, and I am an eager student - you insert your drive into my back port and then you load into my internal drive, and then everything works? Sounds good, when can we start?

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

We can start whenever you want, my system is never microsoft

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm not opposed to Microsoft if that's the way people choose to live their life, but I will follow your lead

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Actually, it might not get hard anymore once I get my hands on this new firmware crack

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Hey, we can work around that. Tell me more about this firmware crack though, I certainly am interested in modifying my hardware

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well, this crack allows me to increase the padding around the buttons up top, allowing easier handling. My drive however will likely be neither hard nor solid, but probably floppy.

The code that needs to be injected for this to work needs official approval first, though.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I too would very much enjoy thus firmware crack, unfortunately the approval for such a thing is comparatively hard to come by and increasingly is frowned upon. I've thought about going around the official approval route but that is a headache of its own.

(I live on TERF Island, and it sucks)

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The dumbest part for me is that I already have an appointment with the cracked firmware distributors but it won't go anywhere because I can't even get on a waiting list to talk about offical approval.

We're gonna get there. I can't believe in either of our healthcare systems, but I believe in us.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That means a lot miss_brainfart, I'll do my best to believe in us both too ❤️

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Let me send you a big, big hug❤️

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Right back at you 🤗🤗🤗

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think I might be really bad at fixing computers, because it always ends in a data leak.

Also, the people on blahaj zone are the best❤️
I've had so many genuinely nice interactions here, it makes up for all the bad ones in other places

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's OK, we're all just learning and leaks can be cleaned up.

It is nice, isn't it? I'm so glad it was my introduction to the Fediverse. I like venturing out into the rest of it but I'm so glad I have blahaj zone to come back to, and it clearly brings in some nice people from other places too because you're here ❤️

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I signed up to lemmy ml because it has most topics I'm interested in, but turns out I basically live on blahaj zone now. Might as well transition (hihi) to here at this point^^

One of us, one of us, one of us! Come join us sis, be part of the family ❤️

(I shouldn't really have assumed "sis", call me out if I'm wrong)

[–] miss_brainfart@lemmy.ml 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Sis is correct, no worries^^

Well, guess I know what I'll do today

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

🤗 It's nice to have you around, sis ❤️

Heyyy! Welcome home, it's great to have you :D How does it feel, being a proper blahajer? Allow me to give you your first upvote ❤️

[–] miss_brainfarts@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Blahaj Zone is the nicest online community I've ever visited, so it makes sense to make it my primary residence^^

I'll consider this to be the first part of my transition :P

Although this is actually the second fediverse account I've migrated, to be precise. My old pixelfed profile still had the word guy in it

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 10 months ago (12 children)

Oh wow, I guess congrats on the official start of your transition =P I'm going to congratulate myself on playing a small part in it too 😆

Woof, somehow I've always avoided included words like "guy" in any username I've made, I suppose deep down I always knew I wasn't cis (although the repeated questioning of it over pretty much my whole life should have been the biggest clue 😅)

OK, I'm not white knighting here.... but I don't want to see you become the butt of the joke. All of this double and triple entendre is getting out of control. For all of this back loading to properly work you need a proper tower case. Personally I'm into cases by the Eiffel company. Eiffel towers are the best! You can front load AND back load simultaneously (some hand holding for structural support may be necessary). I utilize a method that has been widely recognized as the best. You have the comedic effect of a Spit Take along side the slow burn of a good Roast over how sloppy you com ports are. The colloquial term is SpitRoasting.... it's quite the undertaking but if we all work hard we can make this all come together.

On the other hand, As a guy who’s great with computers, nothing is hotter than a woman troubleshooting her own tech problems.

[–] KrokanteBamischijf@feddit.nl 19 points 10 months ago

Can confirm, society needs more women in tech, for equality reasons of course. Definitely not for any other reasons...

Joking aside, one step up from a woman troubleshooting her own tech problems is a woman troubleshooting my tech problems.
