Wait, you guys cant pump your own gas? And this is seen as a good thing? Can someone explain? I'm not from Oregon

[–] Virkkunen@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I'm from s country that has never had self serving gas stations and I genuinely cannot understand why Americans are so obsessed with pumping their own gas

Most people in the US generally disagree with the rationale behind disallowing self-service gas stations, which is that the customers are incapable of dispensing gasoline without setting themselves on fire.

If someone honestly wants to pay for someone to pump their gasoline, they can still do so. It's not illegal to have full service pumps at Oregon gas stations now. It's just legal to have self service, like the rest of the US.

There's a labor shortage.

If you pay a person to operate a gas pump the cost of gasoline is more.

If you can let people pump their own gas that's fewer workers at the gas station, which translates to lower prices.

I'm lazy and I don't get it either. What's fun standing freezing weather pumping gas?

I've never been to Oregon but I just dropped in to let you know how happy I am for you guys. You've earned this.

Well, shoot. That was one of the few things about living in Oregon that I actually enjoyed.

[–] lemming934@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago

Don't worry, stations are still required to have half their pumps be full service.

Then she doesn't allow other good bills to pass. See’s on the way to being tossed out next election

[–] DucktorZee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Don't like this one bit.
