Wrote my resignation letter ahead of sending it tomorrow (employer already knows itโ€™s coming). Thatโ€™s probably the most enjoyable letter that Iโ€™ve ever written. A little bit of sentiment thrown in there, thank you for the opportunity yadda yadda.

So so glad this day has come. The shit they put me through since asking me to move on, honestly I donโ€™t remember a time I had to face so many situations so quickly where I felt like throwing up from nerves and anxiety each time. But I got through it.

Thereโ€™s talk of putting me on gardening leave, which I think Iโ€™m ok with. They were saying they were happy for me to finish early so I can start my contractor role sooner, but Iโ€™d have to agree to shorten my notice pay. I think Iโ€™ll take the pay for doing nothing.

Everyday I can stand up a little straighter. :) Slow but sure progress.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 11 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Today I did what I had to do
For my sanity.
Told my father all my feelings;
"I'm a travesty".
He wasn't there when I was small,
"Are you here for me?"
Does he care for me?
We barely speak.
But he said he is proud of me,
And my journey.
That he'd support me always,
And that he does love me.

I told my work I'm done;
I won't be coming in
Ever again, I'm through with phones
I live for me.
I applied for a course
In a career I've never been in;
If I want change it's up to me,
I can't keep going on like this.

Pathological work liar is in full force today, gods give me strength and patience.

Can you lean in to the stories and toy with them?

I know itโ€™s a bad idea - just the devil in me would be tempted

[โ€“] bananafungus@aussie.zone 4 points 8 months ago

Oh, I do, and I absolutely call them out once I've had enough.

One of my visitors asked why you can't get period specific pain relief medication in Australia, like Panadol Menstrual - I dug up an ABC article on the 2015 Reckitt Benkeiser/Nurofen lawsuit, and it had an old clip from the Checkout c. 2013.

I felt so proud at that moment for Australia having the ACCC (defanged as it has been over the years) and consumer affairs shows like Gruen and The Checkout (I learned so much about marketing tactics that I take for granted now, even if Will Anderson is chronically unfunny).

The lack of shows like The Checkout these days is sad. Are there any well-researched contemporary Aus successors I wonder. My niece is rather sheltered so I'd like her to learn some of this stuff and understand that you can fight back against bullies. We come from a place that is still so overwhelmingly anti-consumer that it's not funny

I am about to put Mr Woof through the terrible torment know as "a bath". Wish me luck.

It's been a big day for Mr Woof - first a bath, then a meet and greet with a new pet sitter. He's decided to stick his head under the pillow and hide from the world for a while.

Well it's already happened twice now.

After being away regional since xmas and back in the melbs.. I've said accidentally hello to 2 random strangers whilst walking. Felt like an axe murderer with the stares I got.

The ABC having the headline "The rental property sector is not a net taxpayer" is a little misleading IMO.

In many European countries rental properties are taxpayer subsidised. However in turn for getting the subsidies, the property is subject to rent control or a long term lease.

Holy fuck. If anyone remembers a nu metal band from high school called "Kittie", they just released a new song after like, 13 years of nothing. And it's awesome!!!

[โ€“] bull@aussie.zone 4 points 8 months ago

I saw them live at a very sweaty Big Day Out! I loved Kittie! I'll check this out!

So the Australian women's cricket team is in the process of destroying South Africa.
The current score is 8/55, which is a pretty ominous start for a five-day test. I suspect it may not go the full five days. Given that it's also 40ยฐ here, that may not be such a bad thing.

Haha. I was testing something out but it didn't work so I had to delete it.

That's weird the giraffe there looks different to the emoji I put there.

Gโ€™morning

[โ€“] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 8 months ago

Argh... One of those social things tonight where you're treated like you're invisible and yet feel like you're expected to perform at the same time. I hate having been the very tail end of my generation. Special punishment if you live alone with no partner or kids, it feels like.

We are going regional this weekend to stay with another relative, but I'll be ducking out for a good part of it - and then the adults are gone and I'll be back to my own life and not feeling like I should pretend to be someone else to be the ideal auntie figure. I'll do it my way, fuckyas.

Went out to the dentist for a clean this morning. Apparently my brushing technique is great and also I smell great (nurse liked my cologne) so that was a nice start to the day. Decided it was such a nice day I'd drive out to get lunch in Kyneton which was spectacular, then drove back to the city and got home in time for my afternoon meetings.

OH and some car went flying past me on City Link and then about 30 seconds later I see a cop car flying up behind me flashing its lights. I move out of its way quickly and it takes off and pulls that other car over. Always a nice thing to see.

If I had to pick a highlight from this morning I'd say maybe the vanilla slice and Farmers Union iced coffee combo after my pie.

Spent 3 hours on the phone getting Centrelink to update my TFN. I've noticed calling Services Australia on their regular line just gets you hung up on because they can't handle the volume of calls. Try the Department of Social Services switchboard instead and ask for the area you need: 1300 653 227

OH was home sick today, and I came home to find him watching train videos on YouTube. Weโ€™ve now got someoneโ€™s amateur version of that SBS Ghan train vid, going from Albury to Southern Cross. Itโ€™s actually quite relaxing.

OH: ooh, weโ€™re just coming in to Wodongaโ€ฆ

Another night, another fight. I'm almost 100% certain this one wasn't my fault.

Fellow lemmyers (Lemmings?), who the hell do I talk to about problems in my relationship? I can't talk to her about it, because it seems to start fights the second I bring a concern up, and I can't afford therapy right now. I don't want to drag a friend or a coworker into this shit.

To preface, breaking up is not on the table for a fucktonne of different reasons. I believe she will get better, she's just really stressed lately.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm going to talk from my experience. First of all I find out if it's me my husband is upset with or someone else. If it's me then I remind him that I'm not the enemy and we need to discuss things in a civilised manner. If it's got nothing to do with me then I let him vent while I listen.

Who was it who was making patchwork cushions/chair covers?

Brilliant idea that I will steal. :) I'm going to buy lots of different tapestry cushions and table runners from op shops to make some interesting /less formal chair covers for my dining setting.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Me ๐Ÿ˜บ Iโ€™ve also got a friend who did some pretty fab stuff rescuing the embroidered bits of old doilies etc and frankensteining them together.

Cool. Thank you for the inspiration. I'll show pics when I'm finished. :)

I donโ€™t know what the deal with this batch of pins is. Have had over a dozen bend to 90 or have the heads shatter in the past few days. Bloody annoying.

Coffee is good. Sleeping like shit the last couple of days, I sleep, but Im not getting a ton of energy from it, and I keep waking up wide awake in the middle of the night.

Travel insurance is usually quite cheap, even mid range policies. So it seems insane to me that some people don't get it.

Swatched the paint last night onto strips of paper. It's thin and patchy so I might do another coat to get a good solid colour
