You use terminal because you know what you are doing.

I use terminal because I want to feel like a hacker in a 90's movie.

We are not the same.

You use the terminal because you like the UX experience.

I use the terminal because the best IDE I can install on my work server is vim7.4.*

We are not the same.

*VHDL and SV. I can't install python for TerosHDL

Nice and rare to see a fellow SV user. Did you come across to any relevant communities for digital design and verification, asic or fpga?

[–] sincle354@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

No, and I would love to find a resource to help me bend UVM to my will. Alas, I'm in a niche of a niche on a currently niche platform. I'm not hopeful for years. The subreddit for FPGA is all I got right now.

I would love some uvm content as well.

I use the terminal only to install something I need

Terminal is even more impressive if used in full screen

[–] Seraph089@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

If you want impressive, you have 4-6 seperate terminal windows that take up the whole screen collectively. The laymen assume you're hacking the NSA or something if they see that.

Yes, I use PowerShell with garish colors. Yes, I have to Google every step. No,I don't understand the Microsoft docs.

[–] xthexder@programming.dev 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

To be fair, I used to work there, and not even Microsoft understands their docs.

Legitimately relieved it's not just a me problem

I use the Command Prompt

We are not the same

[–] jeff@programming.dev 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can do both with Windows Terminal!

[–] operetingushisutemu@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Nice try, Bill.

People know what dropdown menus are called :O

[–] EricAux@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, my mom would say "Where's all the stuff" to refer to buttons, drop-down menus, etc.

[–] PCChipsM922U@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, found the lack of knowledge of what their name is shocking as well.

[–] CausticFlames@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

"Yknow the uh, the.. um. The selection thingy."

[–] digitallyfree@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

That's so true as a Linux user in front of non-techies.

[–] tappyturtle@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

sees a monospaced font

[–] argv_minus_one@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

It ain't hacking unless I've got a ski mask on.

[–] Digestive_Biscuit@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

I've lost count of the amount of times my terminal has been referenced as being the matrix. Hasn't happened much since WFH though.
