I don't use invidious much, but this seems easy to use and friendly! Much better than the default from a new user perspective. My only complaint is please use a dropdown or radio select for the quality instead of a slider, using the slider input makes me feel dirty.

[–] Ward 11 points 7 months ago

Yea the slider was the default component vidstack uses, I do agree it would be a good idea to use a drop down instead.

It also doesnt seem to remember the selection, every video i need to bump it back up off 340p

very cool. requires javascript tho. so for now im going to stick to invidious

[–] Ward 27 points 7 months ago

fair enough! Materialious very much meant for people who use Invidious and are comfortable with JS.

We got freetube too, you can always play on mpv

[–] Flynn_Mandrake@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 7 months ago

Really cool, particularly the inbuilt sponsorblock and dislikes. Those are something I've been missing in my own Invidious. I'll still stick with the original interface, but keep up the good work!

Great effort, beautiful interface

But I prefer the minimalist and snappier invidious interface. + Invidious is already slow at fixing issues even with the good userbase, I don't know fast this project will be at fixing YouTube constant changes.

This interface uses the Invidious API. So if YouTube breaks Invidious & Materialious, once Invidious is fixed, Materialious is also fixed.

[–] anticurrent@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Take for instance Likes and dislikes counts are broken on all invidious instances, but on materialious they are displayed with no problem, are you telling me the invidious API was returning the counts just fine but they didn't bother fixing the interface for months now ???

Materialious uses ReturnYouTubeDislikes for dislikes and likes, this option can be disabled in settings.

Brodie + TechHut = Respect to you

[–] chemicalwonka@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 7 months ago

I love the way Brodie says "BUT"

Exzellent work. Will probably get around to installing an instance for friends and family. This seems quite user-friendly.

First: This looks really great, awesome man

Second: Fucking great taste, I was just watching a two minute papers video when I saw this, Brodi's awesome too

[–] Ward 2 points 7 months ago

Thank you & yes my taste is on point.

It's very similar to FreeTube, which looks really cool.

So I’ve been switching l over from YouTube, but what’s this got over stuff like other invidious servers or piped

Edit: also what’s dash do?

[–] z3rOR0ne@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 months ago

Nice. I was looking to see if there was an easy way to somehow have a Non-JS version, but yeah, using Svelte ... Not gonna happen without more or less a separate rewrite.

I usually just browse invidious via a redirect extension and a !yt bang via duckduckgo, then just grab the invidious link to use with yt-dlp though, so I don't really even see the invidious ui for longer than a second.

This looks nice. Modern design looks well thought out. Good job.

God I fucking love material design

[–] Folkmar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 months ago

Would your software be more light wheight than freetube? I need something for an old machine and this looks great.

[–] useful_idiot@lemmy.eatsleepcode.ca 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Fantastic work, love the built in sponsor block integration. Is it possible to also include support for DeArrow ?

[–] Ward 1 points 7 months ago

Yes! DeArrow support is planned

[–] YeeHawSeeSaw@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago (2 children)

How would someone install this instead of the YouTube app on a NVIDIA Shield 2017?

[–] Ward 4 points 7 months ago

Materialious is a web app. Check out Clipious for a native Android Invidious client with support for Android TV.

[–] ccdfa@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

You can install smarttube next on your shield. It has sponsor block as well as regular ad block
