My daughter basically only looked at cat pics, and got randomly banned for "not being over 13"; she's 16... she offered to send a copy of her ID and they didn't care.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
I mean it says it was because of what you posted on your other accounts. What did you post on your other accounts?
Maybe he got a recycled IP previously belonging to someone else who was banned
Nothing. My other account was only for lurking and I didn't post anything; no comments, no posts, nothing.
I only post / comment on my main, but that's now no longer possible lol.
Reddit is an authoritarian app
I got permabanned for suggesting we should eat rich people too many times. Worth it, no regrets.
Was there nothing in your inbox like the screenshot suggests?
I don't know if it would be something like ban evasion by acknowledging you have multiple accounts or even using a VPN with their crackdown on that.
I don't use a VPN for Reddit and while I have another account, it's not for ban evasion, but rather to have my nsfw activity separate from my personal account.
No fucking idea what's happened here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Reddit decided to use AI or some shit to regulate the rules, resulting in random bans.
Knowing them it has something to do with your nsfw account. Remember they don’t make money from nsfw communities as part of their public filing.
Did they ban your NSFW account too, or just your main?
I got the same thing 9 days ago!
My work computer was changed that day to a dynamic IP and then boom, when I logged in I was banned!
Of course my appeal was denied.
Okay, so if there's nowhere to discuss your niche interests, why don't you start a community and discuss your niche interests and tell other people about them so that you can start the community here.
Not OP, but just chiming in to say that I think most people are tired of hearing this. The "just make a new community" thing is repeated often in threads like this, and I feel like it's a bit tone-deaf to people's true complaints, which is that they just want an easy place to chat that doesn't require being an unpaid janitor. Yes, it's easy to create a community on Lemmy. But not everybody wants to run a community. There's a lot of responsibility involved beyond just registering the page on your instance of choice, and that's a daunting task for most people who just want a place to talk about their interests without having to be responsible for keeping the peace on top of it.
Building a community of users is the biggest hurdle at the start - there are communities on Lemmy for most of my interests. But they're almost all totally empty! I don't have the time to gather people from other sites, or any content of my own to share. I have a job already lol
Only one reason you created something that hurt profits
Got banned for making racist comments. Only the comments weren't racist. Didn't even touch on race. Ask any question about it and the mod just does the 28 day mute.
I got banned from every country and city subreddit for commenting on /r/conspiracy.
You can literally just make another account.
Making another account counts as ban evasion
So they will ban them. Again. Oh no
Duh, but be smart and don’t let them know it’s the same user.
They are attached to your IP address I've made six accounts and made them all different, made them follow different places, they all still got banned that's why I'm here
If you use apple use private relay, otherwise use a vpn.
Yup, just did that!
