Not infuriating. Doing the right thing
This is kinda funny, not gonna lie
Mildly Infuriating? More like awesome.
Seems like an upgrade to me. A real upstanding, guy!
As a silly prank I'm kinda ok with it. As long as they leave the real caps on your windshield or something.
Or just use a model that slips over the original caps
Um...
Fuck cars?
Awesome protest honestly, doesn‘t hurt the people or damage the property, the only thing hurt is some fragile egos.
Hilarious

Ok. Will try to do this in the future. Not really a massive tech guy so I wouldn't really know any of this until people tell me.
For future reference, the extra stuff is everything after the question mark. It's not always bad stuff; the question mark is for a bunch of queries, including links to specific time stamps on YouTube videos. Adding ?t=42 to the end of a clean YouTube link will start the video at 42 seconds as an example: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?t=42
Although these "query strings" are sometimes useful, most of the time, they're just for tracking purposes and can be removed with no issue. "If you don't know what it does, it's probably not needed" is a good rule of thumb
Ya know, if the dude had just left the original caps on my doorstep, I wouldn't even be upset. I'd drive around for a while loving it.
Also belongs on Mildly Interesting… 🤣
There have been occasional sprees of tires getting slashed here, so I think I'd take this as a big ole W.
Seems annoying.
Are the 3d printing files for these available anywhere? Asking for a friend.
Replacing is bad since 3d printed parts aren't very air tight. Now if they were the ones that go over the original it would actually be more funny than infuriating.
I don’t think valve stem caps keep air in. I think they simply stop dirt from getting into the valve stem which could cause it to become non functional or the valve to stick open on the tire to deflate
The ones with the rubber seals keep air in. A lot of new cars have those and a lot of cars with tire pressure sensors require them. Regular covers without the seal don't keep air in obviously but I still wouldn't trust the ones 3d printed by a random person because I don't know what their QC is. The ones that go over original covers are the best either way.
I'm a mechanic.
The only thing the cap does is prevent things from damaging the core.
The core is a small piece of metal, spring, and rubber seal. This does all of the work holding air in.
The stem is the housing for the core.
The cap is just protection.
Do an experiment for me. Remove the core and put the cap back on. It will not hold air. Some threads and a piece of plastic that constantly gets removed will not hold air pressure.
Yes, you should have a cap. The cap prevents damage.
I see where you're coming from but "Metal, and some higher quality hard-plastic valve stem caps, often have a rubber washer or seal inside to help make an airtight seal. This type of cap protects from dirt and moisture and also helps prevent air from escaping from a slightly leaking Schrader valve." (https://www.bluestar.com/get_informed/article/tire-valve-stem-caps-do-your-tires-need-them)
"helps prevent air from escaping from a slightly leaking Schrader valve."
"Helps" is doing a lot of work for you there. You have a damaged valve and it would need replaced.
It also doesn't help because the damage to the valve that would come from the moisture from the INSIDE of the tire.
If you're that worried just buy a 100 pack of valves cores for $5 and just swap them every time you change your tires. You're vehicle will explode before you run out of cores, and then you don't need to worry about replacing the $15 fancy caps ever.
Fair enough. I'll concede. However, still rather pull that kind of prank with a cover that goes over the original valve.
I can guarantee the original caps aren't airtight either. That's not what they're designed for. The valve is designed to be airtight. The cap only stops dust building up.
A good cap will keep a decent amount of air in and protect the valve from damage. I wouldn't trust a 3d printed cap that I don't know who made and how good their QC is. If I made it myself though I'd be less hesitant. Either way, it's better to 3d print covers that go over the originals.
Bet.
One of the tactics of the extinction rebellion is to open the stem cap, place a lentil in the valve, and screw the cap back on normally. The tire will deflate over the next few hours.
Mildly awesome
Doing God’s work.
