"The first is the right to free speech and for people to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard. The second is the rule of law. Both must be upheld."

People that are peacefully assembling and making their voices heard are being corralled up, either being arrested, or being forced to disperse. So violation #1.

We then had armed Israeli supporters come and start bashing heads of unarmed Palestinian supporters. Violation #2.

But to be clear, Biden is not condemning the above violations, he's directing his comments at the Palestinian protesters.

Biden is literally one of the few Dems who can lose to Trump, and Bibi is showing him the way. Pathetic. “Israel First” is a losing strategy, plain and simple.

We've been told that Biden is only running because he has the best chance to win against Trump.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago

How laughable is that? By every metric Bernie was poised to wipe the floor with Trump in both 2016 and 2020, and the establishment Dems stole the nomination from him to lose the general, then barely eek out a win riding the coattails of unavoidable disaster from the pandemic. This year the election is just being handed to republicans because Bibi is Biden’s master.

All Dems have to do to win is attack republicans on their staggering corruption, but they refuse to ever do so. Why might that be?

Biden faced harsh criticism from Republicans, who are seizing on party unity against perceived liberal university leaders -- and portraying themselves -- as staunch supporters of Israel -- to go after divided Democrats, to step up his response to recent events.

If you let Trump win, he and his supporters will eradicate Palestine while abandoning Ukraine.

The rule of law, like the international law saying "don't commit genocide"? That one? You're going to uphold that one, right?

[–] MerrySkeptic@sh.itjust.works 26 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Imagine saying this at a Civil Rights sit-in in the 60s

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 24 points 6 months ago

Uhhh...

Maybe you do t know Biden's track record during the Civil Rights movement...

While Bernie was getting arrested protesting, ole Joe was fighting against school integration in the Senate during the day, and hanging out after work with Strom fucking Thurmond in the evenings.

When Biden talks about "the good old days" when they disagreed but we're still friends across the aisle He's talking about the Civil Rights era where he had a bunch of outright racist shit stains across the aisle.

Reporter: "Mr President, has the protests forced you to reconsider any of the policies with regard to the region?"

Biden: "No."

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ain't there a law preventing the sale of weapons to nations that are accused of what Israel is accused of? You going to uphold that one? You're the head of the executive branch, this is your job Joe.

[–] mindlesscrollyparrot@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The rule of law must be upheld, sure, but which law are the protesters supposed to be breaking?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 12 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Speaking about college protests...

Biden was only doing brief unannounced "appearances" because he's scared of protestors and not being able to just read a script.

But he doesn't do that anymore, these comments were made from his safe space, away from the average Americans that won't just kiss his ring and tell him how grateful he is.

This bullshit is going to deptess turnout and give trump a chance

All because Biden won't even just stay out of Israels genocide, instead he has to help them.

Now he's making vieled threats and insinuating protesting genocide breaks the fucking law.

[–] Not_mikey@slrpnk.net 9 points 6 months ago

So he's gonna do an inquiry and track down the Zionist counter protestors who assaulted both those ideals at UCLA.... Right?

Milquetoast Biden Strikes Again!

It's becoming harder and harder to not become an accelerationist.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Accelerationists are either completely selfish fucking idiots or fascists with enough sense to rebrand.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

The best means I've found of fighting against that impulse is remembering what the Internet was like for me in early 2017 - completely demented Hillary supporters all over the place blaming everyone and everything besides their godawful candidate for what had just happened

The moderate Democratic party members who could and should learn a lesson from seeing their crappy candidate and crappy ideology lose a totally winnable election will not learn a damn thing (actually, they'll probably double down even harder on all their idiotic crap and try to run like Michael Bloomberg or Joe Manchin or someone even worse), and everything will only get worse for the people we care about

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I think this covers both sides and still sides 100% with the protesters
