i found a power adapter in my closet last week that had it's barrel jack cut off and instead had two wires exposed and had "works for fans" labeled on it lol... no idea why I did that

it's both. a happy coincidence that enforcing security also lets them lock customers in. it's a common plan that governments share: "we need to collect your data for security"

it's for speed. if I tell you they're out of sight now, but will be visible in 50ms, it'll be faster than waiting 50ms to recv their new position that's visible and waiting on network latency which could be another 50ms in addition
