get a VPS, run Tailscale and NPM on it and switch to Jellyfin

Keep in mind that VPSs will charge for bandwidth, which adds up quickly when you're streaming.

One suggestion I haven't seen mentioned is contacting your ISP. Sometimes you can get a dedicated IP, although you might have to pay for it.

Alternatively you might just break down and pay for Plex Pass. I know that goes against the Lemmy philosophy to the very core, but for all its issues, Plex is still way ahead of Jellyfin in terms of features, UI/UX, etc. Jellyfin will get there, and I'm ready to switch the day that Plex becomes unusable, but that hasn't happened yet.

Commit IDs are only local anyway.

Whay do you mean by that?

Organic Maps vs OsmAnd? (programming.dev)

Hey all! I'm wondering if someone can help me pick between these two apps. They seem to be the most commonly recommended Android front-ends for OpenStreetMaps, but I'm wondering what the pros/cons/differences are. Thanks in advance!

  • Unraid is switching to annual subscription pricing, offering Starter, Unleashed, and Lifetime licenses with optional extension fees for updates.
  • Existing Basic, Plus, and Pro licenses can be upgraded to higher levels of perpetual licenses.
  • This change may increase revenue for Lime Technology but could also make other NAS providers more appealing to users.

Cloud storage solution? (programming.dev)

Hey Lemmy, what do you recommend for cloud backup? OneDrive is now locking me out due to apparently breaking their terms of service, so it's just the push I need to find something else.

I know everyone recommends Nextcloud for self-hosted, but I'm looking to pay for something where I'll get a little more reliability.

I'm seeing mixed reviews of Proton Drive so I'd be curious if anyone has experience with that, especially compared to OneDrive.

Thanks in advance!

Coincidence? Surely Google knows this is a legitimate company.

What DE do you use?

Despite the title, I was just trying to check the menu lol. 🥲

Do you need any other Apple devices to make good use of an Apple TV?

I have the remote with two shortcut buttons, so I can map them to my favorite apps and never see the homescreen. It's actually pretty nice!

Regardless of what you think of Microsoft, SwiftKey is far and away the best mobile keyboard for autocorrect. I try to stick with stock apps but the Google keyboard just doesn't cut it.

Hangouts was peak Google messaging. It was iMessage before iMessage. I don't know if it necessarily came first, but all my friends who have iPhones and use iMessage now used to use Hangouts on Android. I think Google has a huge opportunity to be the popular brand and lost it.

You can use Bing Image Creator.
