Where do you live that they can’t be called mini fridges? I’m in California and Home Depot sells them here as mini fridges. It does say that it’s thermoelectric, but you have to look for it.
Catoblepas
I actually watched that a few days ago, main takeaway I got from it was NEVER use a mini fridge with a thermoelectric cooler rather than one with a real compressor.
Even if it’s 3x the size of the bench, it’s concrete, not a multimillion dollar building, and the community clearly wants benches. If the wooden ones are legitimately unfit for the public then they should install proper benches. But just pouring concrete would probably be cheaper.
Ohh I see, for stability purposes that makes a bit more sense. But it can’t possibly be that expensive to have the city just pour concrete in those spots, or to let volunteers do it.
Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Not evacuating properly”? Plenty of the people who died had no idea the storm was going to be as bad as it was when they were hundreds of miles inland in an area that had never had significant flooding.
For one thing, all benches must have a 5-by-8-foot concrete pad to be ADA compliant.
Is this a Portland thing? In LA I see a lot of concrete benches, but I also see a lot of metal ones and in NYC I would see (possibly grandfathered in) wooden ones.
Oh jeeze yeah, that and the sudden turbo sexism out of nowhere is REALLY disconcerting when it starts to happen. It's a real eye opener.
It’s kind of been a known thing among trans men communities that trans men tend to pass more in rural/more conservative areas than urban/progressive ones. This is something I’ve seen referenced, oh, probably for 20 years now.
Having grown up in a conservative area, I think there’s an element of conservative communities sort of believing that if someone doesn’t look like a cartoon caricature of a queer person, they must be cishet and any ‘evidence’ to the contrary will be waved away. So what would be called a baby face in a conservative area might be seen as a feminine face in a progressive one.
By contrast in progressive communities, my experience is that cis people will kind of over correct and assume that if you look gender nonconforming then you’re trans. Ask any butch lesbian in an urban area and they will probably tell you that they also get they’d a lot! Obviously it’s not the same as it is for trans people, but it’s probably nothing you in particular are doing to “cause” it.
It’s a sucky experience but try to see it as it is: their imperfect interpretation of you, based on almost nothing other than a quick glance. Correct them if it’s worth your time and do your best to shake it off if it’s not.
Also, the difference between the countries with the highest average IQ and the US was 10 points, which is the same kind of increase you can get in IQ testing scores if you tell the tester that they’ll get $10 if they do well.
Thank god no kids are getting fed at school with that money!
