IIRC he was considered a viable candidate for pope as well.

Auto-filling those "you must be at least X old to access this content" inputs could be one? Eg Steam could skip that page directly when accessing 18+ games.

I suppose you could ask the same for the realName and location fields that are already in systemd.

That's definitely not what he did though. He did research on the internet, going through various websites and articles listing options, and asked ChatGPT. That's imo more than what the average user does (or is even willing to do).

He then picked the distro that he saw was being recommended most to him. He installed it with default options, which ended up being Cosmic. Which is improving fast these days, but it's still a bit unstable. But the install process won't tell you that.

Pretending that these users are "bad users" or that highlighting these issues that regular users run into is disingenuous or somehow irresponsible is just unfairly dismissing a valid perspective.

The whole "Linux just works"-shtick just isn't always true. And the sooner the community learns to accept that and works to help these users with their issues, rather than stomping their foot angrily whenever someone shows up highlighting problems. I'm pretty experienced myself with a job in software development, but even I needed to reinstall Bazzite 2 times when installing it for my sister because I somehow messed up something when mounting the hard drives, getting Bazzite stuck in an unrecoverable bootloop (none of the recovery options suggested online worked either). I hate Windows as much as the next guy, but I've never been able to manage that on a Windows install (once running Bazzite ran fine btw, just the setup was frustrating).

I'm not sure if I consider "Afghanistan during the Taliban guerilla war" a good example of ideal anarchist living. Nor what came after that for that matter.

One of the NPP maintainers responded with:

Notepad++ & its plugins are installed in "Program Files" directory by default, which means hackers would need admin privileges to replace any plugin. If a hacker gains such privileges, they could also replace all the DLLs in the system32 folder. By the same logic, once Notepad++ is compromised in this way, any applications or executable binary (*.exe & *.dll) on the system could potentially be replaced. Or am I missing somethings?

Which I suppose is true. You could argue it is a way to persist malicious code once you do have access, but it seems unlikely and not that useful. Low severity if anything.

You'd need to have some general attack script that can adjust (or create proxies for) dlls maliciously on the fly, without prior knowledge of which dlls are encountered. Only in that case could the exe maybe detect malicious changes to the dll and stop execution. But a targeted attack using a compromised NPP distribution wouldn't be covered with such a check.

As much as I agree that Israel is a destabilizing force and that you have their MO fairly spot on, Israel doesn't seem to be using its nuclear arsenal as a deterrent for invasion. They don't have to, they have significant conventional forces with US backing, making invasion nigh-impossible anyway. That's how it went in the past at least with the various regional wars.

I'm not sure an Iranian bomb would stabilize much if anything. Israel sees it as a direct existential threat and will stop at nothing to prevent or disable such a weapon. Iran has also repeatedly threatened to use it on Israel offensively, which doesn't really bode well for peace either. Suppose Iran does lob a bomb at Israel, how would they respond? Or what if Israel strikes first? I don't trust either party to be reasonable and responsible here tbh.

Iran can't use the weapon to threaten Israel as you say, because it'd be an empty threat. Iran can't nuke Israel without getting nuked right back. Israel knows this, so they can continue their expansions just fine.

MAD doctrine prevents nuclear wars from breaking out, but as we have been seeing recently it doesn't prevent conventional wars.

Tuta would also be required to implement a backdoor in their encryption if this law passes. In this post they've stated they will refuse to do so, because it's not possible.

Yes, and most were disciplined because they were describing medication that was not intended for nor effective at treating covid. Still, there were very, very few doctors who did so.

I was more hinting at that through conventional computational means we're just not getting there, and that some completely hypothetical breakthrough somewhere is required. QC is the best guess I have for where it might be but it's still far-fetched.

But yes, you're absolutely right that QC in general isn't a magic bullet here.

I do not think many democrats have insisted that. Biden did considerably better on content, he actually got his facts right whereas Trump lied constantly. But presentation is everything, and Biden failed horribly at that.

Of course, the day after Biden seems fine again at the rally he did. Really unfortunate for him.

That could also be an "angry" squiggle.
