That's really interesting, I guess I'd assumed it was a universal thing.

I know some people who are known by various versions of their names in their different circles, e.g. Robert/Bob to their family, Rob to their school friends, Bobby to their uni mates and Robert at work.

Stop Forwarding Errors, Start Designing Them was a great read, and I'll definitely be trying Exn.

I'm thinking of it the same way, and not having the readers be trade secrets but published specs is good for future digital archeologists.

For example, Dyson uses trade secrets instead of patents, so it would be harder to recreate their tech in the future.

Edit: patents not parents 🤦

Yeah, it's quite a mean trick really - kinda a big middle finger to anyone who does TDD

Are words in a poem lyrics?

Compare to MessagePack's example from their front page:

It answers 90% of my questions in a quick example.

Back in the naughties PCLinuxOS was at #1 and people suspected them of cheating. I'm sure some people do try to game it, but there's plenty of organic and bot traffic to compete with.

Besides, I think the popularity thing's kinda backwards - I'd never visit Ubuntu or Fedora because I know what they are, but I'll be clicking on something novel out of curiosity.

It spends half the time complaining, so I don't think it's an ad (never mind that commercial doesn't mean advertorials). It's more like they saw the anniversary coming up and came up with an angle they felt they could be interesting about.

I had a shufti at the codebase, but I'm not enough of a Python dev to have an opinion.

I'm currently still planning on getting a Letterboxd sub on Black Friday, but I'd love for there to be a good open-source alternative - just not enough to code in Python to help make it happen! One is on my to-do list, but it's already several lifetimes long...

Do we know if the BookWyrm source code is of a good quality? I know developers always prefer starting from scratch, but sometimes it is actually the best idea.

I also found this, but it's fictional:
