I like it, and its scaling difficulty is smart.

Yeah ok, I guess that's what's meant.

I'd be interested to know how the patterns changed - perhaps requests moved to IPv6 which made grouping request origins harder, or maybe too many unconnected users were coming from a single IP and getting false positives (leading to bad UX and support requests).

I guess some people might go with f-s-tayb, but I wouldn't necessary recognise what they were saying.

In the advertising bit they say what data they use and it's all broad stuff like device type and location, as well as aggregate data on how many people click on the ads. Of course, you can just disable this, which surely most people do - tbh I forgot there was even this "sponsored content" there at all (it was added a while ago I think).

They don't say that your browsing habits, interactions or communications are used for anything besides doing what's required to actually do what you asked.

I HATE those sites where popups come up when you are halfway reading something.

Agreed, if I did want to sign up it would be when I've finished, not when I'm trying to read your own bloody content. I often sign up using their own domain with something like sales@ or something ruder. Petty, but it's a small vent. and if one person stops because of it I can die happy.

I'm of the belief that spawning threads on demand is an anti-pattern; threads should spawn on program startup, and sleep until they have work to do.

Hmm, I need to think on this to decide whether I agree. What's your reasoning for this opinion? Is it just based on lower latency, or is it more of an architectural/correctness thing?

You're wasting energy then, and you also need to have some controller on each one to communicate with the grid. No country has a smart grid yet.

Sorry, I was just joking; it's clearly a typo and I don't think anyone misunderstood (or maybe even noticed).

This only works with the weird way Americans say pecan. I'd say PEE-can.

I do think you're right and this is probably a press-fuelled nothing story. Curry was very low key about it (briefly mentioned it to the ref and wouldn't talk about it after the game) and it's most likely there's no-one in the wrong, aside from those responsible in the press and the social media morons abusing everyone involved.

The shaking hands thing I got from the news reports so I can't be sure on that point.
