I think it's just discoverability of content, and probably some UX. Mastodon isn't really a great show of what ActivityPub can do. They intentionally don't have an "algorithm" or any kind of content discoverability. Also the federation is limited to following users, on Lemmy you can follow topics and that causes all their posts and comments to federate.

Just today I heard Bluesky is making a Reddit alternative. I'm a bit worried they overtake Lemmy.

Flavors of markdown are slightly different, but they share a lot in common. Also Boost has slightly different rendering than the Lemmy website UI, specifically with the spoiler tags

Doesn't your suggestion mean that a user from a small instance or their own instance can make a bunch of garbage posts (or even illegal posts) and then a moderator from every single other instance will have to delete their posts separately? That's a ton of repeated work, and really opens up Lemmy to abuse.

very interesting, I wonder if the difference is due to the Pixel 8 Pro having a variable refresh rate screen, maybe also because it has a higher resolution screen and different graphic drivers

but with Chrome being about 10x more efficient on P8P than P4a, I'm guessing the variable refresh rate is a big factor there that Firefox isn't using as optimally

I think the usage is what really uses the resources not just the account itself

also 100 accounts being subscribed to a community is basically the same as 1 account being subscribed, it's going to federate the same data either way

The real solution is to share links to Lemmy communities as replacements and just leave Reddit, turn off whatever auto moderation tools they have and just let the place burn, or maybe even worse be overly strict on moderation lol
