I liked the first one, it's a good horror-comedy not straight horror

their server is down right now, but it did federate with lemmy.ml before going down https://lemmy.ml/c/activitypub@community.nodebb.org

https://programming.dev/c/nodebb-development@community.nodebb.org

also you can read their announcement from their Mastodon profile @nodebb@fosstodon.org

edit: it's back up, to see the announcement post in Lemmy format, put this in your Lemmy's search: https://community.nodebb.org/post/102756

it's from !nodebb-development@community.nodebb.org

RTA means "real time attack". In this case it just means a human is capable of doing the full run instead of only being able to do it in small pieces with tons of attempts, or TAS

And for anyone else, ACE means arbitrary code execution, where you can write values into memory where they will be executed as instructions

Like, not being able to search for specific issues, people, or any other topic already posted even within your own instance is my biggest issue with Lemmy not being a sufficient replacement.

The search page does allow all of this.

/search

You can filter by type (post, user, community, etc), Local/All/Subscribed, searching within a community, choosing a sort option or restricting to past year/month/week.... I think it's much better than Reddit's search.

Is this the Dark Souls of describing games?

[-] Die4Ever@programming.dev 8 points 2 years ago

Technical perspective first...

This is Unreal Engine 1, which used UnrealScript programming language. It was extremely flexible, and you can extract the original UnrealScript code (including comments) from the game. This means it's nearly an open source game, except for the native code. But pretty much everything is controlled by the UnrealScript anyways. Including the GUIs, HUDs, conversations, most of the AI stuff, damage calculations, keyboard key bindings, etc.

On top of this, Deus Ex released their SDK tools (I think in 2001, around the time of the multiplayer patch). Which is their version of the UnrealEd map editor, conversation file editor, and UnrealScript compiler/extractor.

Big PB for me since v2.6 (which changed a lot for the speedrun)

This has got to be one of the first games that required Win95 and didn't run on DOS or Win3.1, probably the first 3D one cause I think the other bundled games were all 2D

It was included with CD-ROM editions of Win95, but idk if the floppy version came out first? Wikipedia suggests this game came out in the same month as Win95 with no exact date, so maybe they really did release the same day.

Build Engine Randomizer currently supports: Duke Nukem 3D, Ion Fury, Shadow Warrior (1997), Blood, and PowerSlave/Exhumed (and maybe more in the future!)

Trailer

Build Engine Randomizer Trailer

Download build-engine-randomizer.exe from the Assets section below. Put eduke32.exe/nblood.exe/etc into the game's folder. Run the Randomizer it, point it to the game's GRP file, choose your settings, and click Randomize! Make sure you have a backup of your game files first just in case. On Windows the Randomizer will generate a bat file for you to play, and then you can just play the game as normal, choose which episode and which difficulty, and it will automatically use the new map files. You do NOT select "USER MAP" in the game menus. If you don't get a bat file, then see the wiki for how to play.

For info on where to get the games and how to run them, check out our wiki here.

ScreenshotsDamn, I'm lookin' good!

"Damn, I'm lookin' good!"

GUI

Randomizes enemies and items. For games that use CON files (Duke Nukem 3D and Ion Fury so far) it also randomizes values like maximum health and ammo values, and enemy strengths. Also supports randomizing the map order. Be warned that putting every setting to maximum will make the game nearly impossible. I suggest you start with the default settings. Also check out the Randomizer.html file that gets created in the output directory to see what's changed.

After months and months of pain losing runs nearly every day to Library and some beyond, I have finally broken a minute barrier. This has been one of the most mentally taxing things that I have done. This is one of my favorite games of all time, and being tested by it and trying to perfect it has been quite the journey. There is still timesave to be had, so I will be trying to go for a low 1:02. I don't know if I could get a 1:01, but who knows.

If I look giga over it at the start of the run, it's because the 2 days prior to this didn't even have a single run to library. So I was getting quite frustrated. But I refused to give up. Since I knew I had the ability to do it.

I used to play this game quite a bit on Windows 95. It's not much of a game but as a kid I enjoyed it lol.

LGR has a video about the first Dogz (1995) and Catz (1996) games: https://youtu.be/8eqLzcvVpiM

I can't find much about the 2nd game though, this is literally the only video I could find of it.

I also played the 3rd game https://youtu.be/JZqo-a-za4E

I think this is a pretty good time for me considering v2.6 added a lot, including new randomized goals like the NSF HQ transmitter computer (the 2nd computer), and the Silo Launch Control Computer, as well Silo requiring you to redirect the missile before Howard Strong will appear. And v2.6 also increased the difficulty across the board.

If you don't know what Deus Ex Randomizer is, then here's our old trailer which shows a breakdown of how it works.

We just released v2.6 which has some big changes like an overhaul of augs (with an option for automatic augs), many more goals with randomized locations, and saving during infolinks. Download here: https://Mods4Ever.com/

But we release updates all the time, so let's recap the highlights of the past year of updates.

Part of DXRando is randomizing the location of explicit mission goal locations (characters, computers, etc). Right now we have 63 goals with 261 locations, vs 1 year ago we had 50 goals with 211 locations in v2.2.7.

We also have an integrated bingo board! Right now we're at 315 Bingo goals, vs 118 bingo goals 1 year ago in v2.2.7.

Here are some of the biggest additions we've done in the past year:

  • New Game Modes:
    • WaltonWare mode: A quick option to get into the game without the time commitment of the full game! You start in a random mission and win by completing one bingo. As New Game+ keeps making it harder, see how fast you can complete them or how many you can complete! There's also WaltonWare Entrance Rando mode which rearranges the way maps are linked together. (There's also a regular Entrance Rando mode, but that falls out of scope for this 1 year recap.)
    • Zero Rando mode: Great for inexperienced players to play the game mostly vanilla, with no randomization, but with balance tweaks, QoL improvements, and bug fixes.
    • Zero Changes mode: This one is for the purists. Use our new installer program and it will do compatibility fixes for the vanilla game (Kentie's Launcher, D3D10, DXVK, Engine.dll fix, and more), then just run DeusEx.exe instead of DXRando.exe and the gameplay will be unchanged but with high frame rates and resolutions!
    • Rando Lite mode: Randomizes some things without interfering with the immersion and mood of the game. Great for players who haven't played Deus Ex in a long time, or if you're intimidated by the full Randomizer.
    • Serious Sam mode: Same as the normal game but with 10x as many enemies. The player has increased health and takes reduced damage to compensate.
    • Speedrun mode: Speedrun with fewer resets while still being able to enjoy higher difficulties. And a built in splits viewer!
  • Mirrored Maps: Play through the game with a random mix of mirrored maps, which will keep you on your toes even more than the randomizer has before!
  • Many changes for enemies:
    • Additional enemy types, including rare augmented enemies!
    • Randomly generated patrol routes for added enemies.
    • Randomized enemy helmets, which reduces damage to their head.
    • Randomized enemy visors, which makes them immune to pepper spray and gas grenades.
    • Enemy types are now split into factions, so randomly added enemies will better match the theme of the surrounding enemies.
  • An option for automatic augmentations, so you don't have to micromanage so hard with your F-keys
  • AugBots, which allow you to install augmentations when you can't find a MedBot (especially on higher difficulties where Medbots are rare)
  • Many more possible locations for items, datacubes, nanokeys, crates, and enemies to appear. Previously these were mostly restricted to the locations where vanilla already had something.
  • Support for UMX music files from Unreal and Unreal Tournament (if you enable Randomized Music in the Rando Settings menu)

my bug report was closed but I'm still seeing the issue on voyager.lemmy.ml even after it was updated to rc.5

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2215#event-10991644637

maybe someone else here can confirm my findings?

I feel like moderation could be an issue though, since Mastodon is only moderated by the instance admins.

If there was a Nostr for Reddit/Lemmy style communication, it could be possible for the communities to have moderators, so that could be good.

[-] Die4Ever@programming.dev 8 points 2 years ago

Yeah the home instance of the community is the only one that tracks the full number, other instances only count their own users

[-] Die4Ever@programming.dev 8 points 3 years ago

It's cool for small and easily testable functions like sorting, but to refactor large amounts of code? No thanks. Would be great if it could leave comments on my pull request though.

[-] Die4Ever@programming.dev 8 points 3 years ago

Maybe it's not as good a match for PC gamer demographics as their other games?
