This is my most wanted feature right now for Boost

Discord has a really low barrier to entry for conversation, it's low friction. If someone playing a game gets a sorta funny screenshot they can share it in Discord and have a decent chance to get some responses or reactions.

But they won't post it on Reddit or anything because there's more friction there, it feels like more work to create a post and then you're unlikely to get any responses anyways, and even if you get upvotes you can't see who upvoted like if it's someone you know, and there's no easy emoji reactions. And users making comments to respond also feels higher friction than a message, people are just less likely to do it for whatever reason.

It just feels like small scale conversations are more likely to happen in Discord than anywhere else. If you have a small group of people then something like Reddit/Lemmy probably won't be sustainable, it'll never take off, but get them in Discord and you're more likely to keep the group active.

I built a couple of HTPCs like 7 years ago or something. Kaby Lake iGPU had support for 4k HDR so I figured I would use the i3 7100T and Linux would add HDR support soon (I was using LibreELEC which was a minimal Linux that just boots into Kodi). Welp still waiting...

The "New Comments" sort is actually supposed to be like old school forums, where a new post would be at the top and then each comment would "bump" the post to the top again. It works the exact same way. Although a way to sort by "New Comments" with at least 1 comment would be an interesting option, just need better names for these things lol. But then again if everyone uses that then who will be the first one to comment on any post?

it'll probably happen in stages, with it first just being a list of communities, then maybe they can get a name and be shared with multiple users and you could follow them like a normal community

I don't see any reason it would require a rewrite, currently a community is an Actor that Boosts the posts directed to it, a multi-community could also be an Actor that boosts any posts going into the communities/Actors that it follows

Everything will turn into little Eco Chambers (as we are seeing) because everyone will constantly defederate.

I think when users can block instances themselves, defederation will hopefully become less common and less talked about
