Most niche communities (with some exceptions ofc:-) here aren't as active as they were on Reddit, so many of us end up spending more time in the generalized ones - e.g. !technology@lemmy.world rather than specific ones like r/OnePlus or even r/Android.

I think we need to get better about crossposting to multiple communities. You could post to all 3 of those.

I definitely think letting users block posts and/or comments from specific instances is way better than full defederation (maybe the instance admin could set a default block list for new users)

but now I'm thinking maybe communities should be able to block instances too

might be good to get some users to just signup to the given instance, and slowly realize they're actually communicating with people from many servers and now they're in the rabbit hole lol

You could use avidemux to cut the video file, avidemux should be able to do this quickly and without transcoding
