Or death isn’t even an inconvenience for them. They’re a hive mind and losing one loses nothing. He gets no joy from it and they are but mildly annoyed.

I was just competing with my friend who was way smarter than me. I plateaued once he moved away.

I’ve given you my take, you’ve given me yours.

I’ve personally worked at some big tech companies, and if their execs are anything like the ones I’ve worked under, putting a little right wing laugh in their marketing would be a Tuesday for them.

I’m not doing anything with my take beyond giving a little asterisk anytime I see people championing gog. You’re gonna disregard the asterisk, that’s your prerogative.

Have a good one.

no goal beyond having a laugh at triggering people with nazi symbols; same as NYT did with their Nazi symbol crossword.

The fact the apology didn’t make an effort to say something like “those responsible have been sacked” and instead said something like “nazis shouldn’t have all the Nordic symbols” told me all I needed to know about their workplace environment and the types that work there. no bueno for me.

Not saying I’m boycotting them, because ethical consumerism is near impossible, but I’m not going to rally behind them or applaud them for anything like they’re to be championed sans asterisk.

The symbol alone was OK, but they doubled it to read SS, and they didn’t send it to Germany; which means it was 100% intentional and not just a little oopsie.

sorry I like to remind people not to get cozy rooting for for-profit corporations that’ve shown some ick recently. took as much effort to remind as it did for the post, but whatever constitutes “elephant” in your book.

I literally asked zero follow up questions and kept trying to signal to him I was not interested. My spouse, on the other hand, was fascinated when I came home and told them about it, so maybe I’ll have answers for you another time.

He did send me a YouTube link via text, which I have not clicked, and said I could learn more on Gaia, which I have no idea what that is.

I discovered recently my normally-quiet uncle is neck deep in believing the most convoluted alien conspiracy theory I’d ever heard. For ten breathless minutes he went on about believing aliens are real (which I’m open minded about), children who exhibit esp (extra sensory perception) in public schools are abducted by some shady group (with the teacher’s permission/doing) and hired by the CIA to takeover people’s minds and bodies without their say so. Also sold into sex slavery used by billionaires (which… I mean when I heard that part I was like “bud, THAT part might be true, but the how probably isn’t”), also were not on earth right now, we’re going somewhere else? In an earth simulation? TBH I tuned him out or didn’t commit a lot of it to memory.

Anyways, ye gods, what rabbit holes there are lying out there for people to fall into.

GOG trying to drum up positive pr after that Nazi symbol newsletter.

They say it’s harder to break up with friends than a romantic partner since the rules are a lot less cut-and-dry. This often results in people tolerating others’ company they otherwise wouldn’t be around because they can’t bring themselves to cut them loose.

I’ve only ever friend broken up with one other person who was going down a 4chan bigotry rabbit hole back in the day, and he’d constantly bring up problematic talking points that I’d try to dismantle, but he was too dogmatic to have a conversation with so I had to stop being friends with him.

I check up on his online presence every now and again, but he’s only gotten more racist and sexist. Sometimes I wonder if having more pushback from me or someone outside whatever echo chamber he was in would’ve helped, but he just sapped my energy so much I couldn’t take it.

(trivia for older internet peeps; he was the Legorobot Comics author. If you ever saw his work you could probably tell he was gonna grow up to be a bigot)

Anyways, what’s your friend break up story? What was the last straw? What was the first straw? Any regrets?
