Thanks!

Can't believe I didn't find those, guess I should have searched for platinum. Guess I'm off installing xfce.

I'm talking about the System 7/8/9 days of macOS. I really like the aesthetic and workflow in the older macOS versions (call me a masochist) and I'm hoping if someone knows of something that already exists. I know there are plenty of skins/themes that hearken back to Windows 95/98, but most of what you find online when you look for "Linux like macOS 9" is things that make it look like modern macOS.

That's awesome, someone actually using Python what it's best for, creating a minimum viable product, before moving onto something more permanent!

I'll be very interested to see where this project ends up going.

This is a very cool concept and it seems quite mature for something in beta. I do however have my doubts over choosing to use python for something as often used as the network stack. As I understand it, one of the goals for this project is efficiency, and while python is very efficient to write, it is notably very inefficient during runtime.

I've had some bad experienced with Ubiquitis edge routers and their Unifi software, so I'd rather avoid them for a bit. I'll have to look into mikrotik!

Though so, thanks.

I'm comfortable with a cli, but in a homelab environment quick testing might prove easier using a GUI, so I'll probably go with the pfsense route then

I just recently got 1 gigabit up/down at home when they put in fiber. Now I'm looking for a router/firewall to use. I run a homelab with a few VMs.

I was looking at getting a Cisco router to tinker with, as I've just finished a course on IOS. What routers would you recommend (2nd hand) for less than 150€? Is Cisco even feasible at this price point or should I just get a mini pc and run pfsense/opnsense?

I've looked at the ISR900 and it seems to meet my requirements, but I am not sure if it also offers a web interface, which would be quite useful for me.

Bit of an unstructured post but I hope you'll be able to help me regardless.

EDIT: I ended up getting a mikrotik hAP ac3 router. It seems to meet my requirements and after trying the routerOS demo they have up I decided that it would work for me.

As a fellow dutch person that also travels by trains a lot, I get really irritated when people only complain. Sure, there are definitely fuck ups at NS. But I feel people completely write off the system because of them. I can't remember the last time a train got outright cancelled (outside of extreme weather conditions in which I also wouldn't be comfortable driving). There are issues with the system, those should be fixed, but that does not mean that everything is terrible.

But maybe it's way worse in your part of the country, there definitely have been issues with getting enough personnel (as do all other sectors). So maybe we are both making our arguments from two different experiences.

I'm sorry, what? It may feel like they suck when there is a 10 minute delay on the train you wanted to take, but the Dutch railway system is one of the most reliable in Europe.

I hope they've done enough to the Manhattan area to 'spice it up'. In the first game I never really got any incentive to explore it beyond the icons on the map/hud. When Tears of the Kingdom released I was also a bit disappointed with how much of the map stayed the same. Sure, they added a lot of new areas in that game, but in the end you still had to cover a lot of known ground.

Still, reviews are looking good and I'm excited to try it out;

It's limited so it can be driven using a scooter license. In many European countries you can get this license at age 16. It is also often easier and cheaper to get, but it limits your vehicles max speed to 45 km/h.

I'm sorry, what do you mean with conflicting IP addresses? I've made sure to run the ISP router -> EdgeRouter connection on a different Subnet, and the EdgeRouter is the only device connected to the ISP router.

I've run a ping test for a while from the EdgeRouter, but I can't seem to be able to replicate my issues during a ping test unfortunatly. It's really quite puzzeling me

Hi all, first time posting for tech support on lemmy!

I've recently switched ISPs to now have a gigabit connection at my home, but we've been experiencing some weird issues with it. When i run a speedtest, I get my full gigabit (or close enough) speeds and most of the time it works perfectly. But ever so often, it just completly drops all packets. When downloading a file for example it can randomly drop the speed to 0 b/sec and you have to restart the download in order to get it working again. Same with website loading, when it happens when loading a website, just half of the website gets loaded and I am missing images/styling/etc.

Now I run my own EdgeRouter X behind my ISP provided router. I have a nagging feeling this could be causing my issues, but with my previous ISP I was running the same setup and it worked flawlessly (albeit with a different ISP provided router).

Have any of you experienced something like this before?

Edit: thanks for all the quick responses everyone! I will look into your suggestions and update the post if/when I've found my solution.

Edit 2: Fixed the problem. As always, when in doubt, it's the DNS. My ISP router did not come with any DNS settings preset. I set it to the same DNS as my EdgeRouter and my problems went away. I hope this helps some of you facing the same issue. Thanks for your responses!

I just added this feature as i found it annoying too. Just waiting for my code to be approved and to be merged into the main codebase.
