Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has Cristiano Ronaldo and Salvatore Ganacci in it. Having a goofy soccer character as a character is out of place in that game, I don't want real people in fighting games at all, and to top it off, Rinaldo is a piece of shit anyway.
The end of the world narrative pushers are actually the "AI safety" people that work at the big AI companies, and people like Huang himself that like to boost completely made up narratives like "the AI threatened us when we said we'd turn it off!" (Invariably if that happened it's because they... prompted it to...)
- AI is an extremely overloaded term. We use it to mean any kind of machine learning (most of which has been around a while), generative AI, and even things like NPC logic in video games
- All the fear mongering you've heard about AGI/super intelligence is based on LLMs. LLMs just process language based on statistical probabilities from their training data and aren't anywhere near close to "understanding" in the sense that you might think of it.
- LLMs don't seem like the path to AGI, so I sincerely doubt we're anywhere close.
- LLM based tech isn't even that good at replacing workers for the things it kind of sort of works for. Companies keep trying to replace call center staff with LLM based systems and walking it back after it sucks. Fast food restaurants are trying but people hate it for much the same reasons, so we'll see how it goes.
Tldr: AGI being on the horizon and AI destroying the job market is all marketing to make people think AI is more capable than it is. It is good for some things, but not for everything under the sun like they'd have you believe. The narrative that AI is capable enough to replace humans is especially insidious because that is many CEOs fondest wish, so many of them will drink the coolaid and try and fail.
Tldr tldr: don't panic it's not as big a deal as they'd have you believe.
Private repos, if you don't need a forge, can easily be pushed to a VPS with ssh
Are you trying to say that making a series of http requests to view a website is even remotely equivalent in energy usage compared to running inference with an llm model???
I don't like ORMs, but I'd rather use a battle tested ORM than some vibe coded data layer.
It doesn't matter how much more efficient we get. We already have the bandwidth to do everything we need to do but if gets vacuumed up into whatever rich people want it to. That will continue no matter how efficient we get unless society completely changes.
You're wrong though. Things aren't being prioritized in order of urgency. If they were, everyone in the planet would be focused on climate change. Instead, we have some places actively fighting it.
I had mic quality issues in discord for a while and it turned out it was discord's echo/noise cancelation misbehaving. Turned it off and started using https://github.com/noisetorch/NoiseTorch instead. It's actually way better at noise cancelation anyway.
Not that that's necessarily what's happening with your friend but thought I'd throw it out in case it is
In my experience it's usually more like: Them: here have some of this meat thing Me: No thanks Them: why not it's really good try some Me: i don't eat meat Them: but why? Me: to reduce animal cruelty and environmental harm Them: wow how dare you be so judgy
I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to not offend this type of person in this situation and frankly I don't think it's my fault or my problem they're offended. My theory is that that agree with my reasons but rather than change or live with the cognitive dissonance they just lash out at anyone that reminds them they could be living more ethically even if they basically MAKE them say it.
Blaming vegans for that is bullshit, frankly

Yes. Doing things that get me into a flow state not only makes the observer quiet while doing the activity but also makes me better able to manage my attention at other times. Rhythm games and schmups work well for me. Alcohol on a regular basis eats at my ability to focus and makes it worse over time.
