If you know your way around a Linux terminal, or can follow simple terminal instructions, I always recommend folks host their own OpenVPN server. $5/month for a digital ocean instance and now I never have to worry about some provider hiking my VPN prices or snooping on my traffic.

it could store the recordings and bundle them with an innocent request, encrypted even. unless you have physically looked inside the device and checked that it is incapable of doing this, you are simply trusting a company's word.

Plenty of people have done just that; And discovered that no, Echo devices do not do that. Also audio recordings are big, so the folks who have done proper network analysis would probably have noticed such a thing.

Echo devices have two computers in them: One that only listens for the wake word and activates the second computer. A second computer that does the actual relay and processing for the voice commands.

Every time I've done it, I've also put an auto forward on my old address, and a label or other alert for anything that comes through from the old so I can go update it or block that address from auto forwarding.

Analysis. It uses it, but not by "matching it". The training data is not included in the final model. No GPT can access its training data at runtime.

Training analyzes the contents of the training data and creates a statistical model representing the likelihoods of various tokens based on a complex series of mathematical transformations that encode various attributes of the tokens making up the training data.

3Blue1Brown has a great series on the actual math behind it, I would highly recommend educating yourself on what GPTs actually do. It's way more interesting than simple matching.
