Finished! I liked it a lot, not for the story as I felt it really was targeted at the young adult male (which I no longer identify with in afraid), but for the ideas and some of the values. And the vision as well - of what will happen, and what might happen.

Nah, it’s not crashing. The core business is still there and will be there in the future - it answers a need. Mate, this is very meta with the OP in a bad way. Dismissing someone this way really goes against the values here. Not everyone had the chance to take higher education courses. And not having that chance does not invalidate immediately their views.

I did have a similar reading of it, though mine tends towards justifying the security robot as justified as very clearly the survival of the settlement is immediately at stake there - in other words my reading is that humans have not been able to survive in this world outside of self-contained pockets and are very afraid of going out of them for fear of messing up with something that will terminate them. Techno-fragile might be the right word.
