@LukeSky Well, what kind of things does she like to stitch? Funny text? Flowers? Animals?

@blueskiesoc Flamingos are awesome, you have nothing to worry about πŸ˜„

It must be terrifying living there (in the US) right now, which probably makes it scarier if you're that close to it as well.

You make a good point, abuse of women is normalised. I think in this particular case (book vs show), the show was a lot more visceral, whereas in my opinion it was kinda of 'glossed over' in the book. It might be part of the writing style - I usually read books in first person, so it's like you are the character. This story was written so detached, I didn't feel much for anyone.

There's a kbin userstyle for PC (do they exist for mobile?) that gives you a sidebar of your subscribed magazines that groups them from different instances! You still have to find them first though.

A comprehensive mapping of old subreddits to new communities.

I read the Handmaid's Tale yesterday, finally. I'm disappointed. I did not like the writing style at all, there was no real story, just descriptions. And then it just ended. No conclusion or anything.

My best guess it's because the TV show was so intense and well made (at least the earlier seasons), and the book was... Not? Episodes would stay with me for days, but I'm struggling to recall the book already.

Maybe the book is supposed to be unsatisfying to go with the theme. Nothing much happened after Gilead was created, every day just kinda goes by. Sure there was some torture and death, but... Eh.

Maybe I was expecting too much after all the praise it got. It's my first Atwood book, and way way outside of my usual genre (fantasy, scifi, horror).

What did you all think of it?

I wrote a quick manual for some friends trying to leave reddit and get their saved stuff, maybe it'll help someone else as well. Feel free to point out any mistakes, I'm by no means an expert.

Boobytraps. Rumours about a curse/ghosts/entry fee. Pretend there's something boring in there. Allow entry, but make the process the full force of German bureaucracy (you need to file form A on a blood moon, to get form A, you need document B2, no not that one the green one, you can get it from Location C but that's only open once a month for half an hour, and if you don't wear pink they won't help you).

Maybe if we make it, they will come? (and someone will want to take over modding?)

Have more than one interest/hobby! I can't imagine doing the same for months on end with no alternative. I naturally gravitate to a monthly rotation (not consciously, just kinda happens) of high interest in something, and then there's a few things I do whenever (read a book when I have a few minutes here or there, do some cross stitching while watching my husband play a game, etc).

I've been looking as well but haven't found anything yet. I considered starting /m/imaginarynetwork (would be cool to have it as an instance, and the the different subs as their own magazines!) but I'm a little scared of modding.

Despite everything I hope they stay on reddit too, I have an automatic phone background changer that pulls new pics from the imaginary subs every 30 minutes πŸ˜…

Earlier this month, Meta showed staff plans for a text-based social network designed to compete with Twitter.

Clocking in at 651 myself! Can't wait for kbin to populate more.

A script to help you make a list and export all subreddits you joined. Made by Tim VisΓ©e, not me, I just found it while looking for an easy way to get that list.

Ah neat, thanks! Is it like hashtags, you just make something up, do you think?

Wait, tags? I think I missed that. Where did you find those? Thanks =) Sounds like a cool feature!
